This takes place a few days after Sunny and his mother left Faraway.
Basil was laying in bed just thirty minutes prior. Now, he was staring at his best friend laying in his bed. Why exactly was Sunny here? Isn't he supposed to be in the city?
The answer to your question, is yes. He is supposed to be in the city. But wouldn't you know it, a random knock on your door in the middle of the night usually leads to odd things happening.
In this case, it was Sunny.
Now, this will probably be easier to explain if we just magically go back in time thirty minutes. But not all people can do that, can they?
I'll do it anyway. For convenience.
So, as I said, thirty minutes ago. Basil is chilling in his room, trying and failing to fall asleep. He tosses and turns, desperately trying to find some sort of comfort. He finds no such thing. Pity.
Thankfully, or not so thankfully, there's a knock coming from the front door. Basil ignores it for a moment, due to his raging fear of horror movies coming true and him being the main character. After a minute or so, there's another knock, this time weaker than the one before followed by a meek mumble. One that Basil could hear, but not make out.
So, he slowly makes his way out of his bed, limping just slightly. Even slower, he walks to the front door, turning on lights as he goes. Partly because he can't see for shit, but mainly because he's a coward. He attempts to peek through the peephole, but he can't see anything because as I said it is the middle of the night. It is dark.
He makes a hasty decision and decides to just open the damn door. And in true horror film fashion, there's no one there- nah I'm kidding. Sunny was standing outside the door, leaning against the doorframe for stability.
“Wh- Sunny!? What are you doing here!?” Basil yelps. I'd say he was terrified, but he was more confused. Bummer.
Sunny grunts and tries to straighten himself out, which he cannot do because of an overused joke known as being gay. Unfortunately, he is unable to stay standing as he is incredibly unstable, mentally and physically, and falls forward.
And as in all (or some idk) gay fanfictions, Basil effortlessly catches him. Unfortunately for me, there's no falling to the floor involved because Sunny isn't heavy enough to knock Basil over. Sad.
In any case, Basil is absolutely befuddled. How in the hell was Sunny here? “Sunny? Can you talk to me?” Sadly, his words were proved to be ineffective. He got no good response other than a grunt. It seemed Sunny didn't have enough energy to do… anything I guess. He's basically useless at this point. But he's also always useless, so that sentence was useless.
Basil sighs, dragging Sunny inside, closing the front door. He drags Sunny over to the couch and sets him down. God, Sunny looked horrible. And that's saying something considering how he usually looks.
Well, Basil couldn't really do anything right now for him, due to the fact that he seems to have passed out. So, he once again picks Sunny up and brings him to his room. Why he didn't bring him to the empty room so he could sleep in his own bed…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
He lays Sunny down and pulls the blanket over him. Sighing, he sits down beside the bed and stares at Sunny. And that's how he ended up with Sunny in his bed.
It's kind of a pity it wasn't for any other reason. Oh well.
Anyhow…
Basil ponders about what he should do. Should he call Sunny's mom? No, she'd no doubt yell at him, again. She wasn't too happy about him, uh, gouging Sunny's eye out. Polly wasn't here, so he couldn't talk to her. It's a shame she hardly ever stayed overnight. But it makes sense, she has her own home. So his only options were wait, or…
Well, he didn't want to have to wait.
Slowly, Basil stands back up. He walks out of his room and to the phone on the table in the hall. He picks up the receiver and dials in the number. He brings the receiver to his ear and waits.
And waits…
He sighs, thinking no one would ever pick up.
Unfortunately for him, it goes to voice-mail. He sighs and decides to actually leave a message for once.
“Uh, hi. This is Basil, I just wanted to let you know that, um, Sunny's back. I don't know why. Uh, g-goodbye.” And then he hangs up. He takes a deep breath and returns to his room.
He stops before he enters the room. He should really get to sleep. But he can't just sleep in the bed with Sunny. That would be weird. And stupid. Like him.
He sighs and turns around. Sleeping on the couch shouldn't be so bad. He's slept on the floor before, how bad would a couch be?
He grabs the blanket off of the back of the couch and lays down, pulling the blanket over him. Well, he'll find out how bad sleeping on a couch is in a few hours.
Turns out, it's horrible. Basil kept waking throughout the night either due to being too hot or too uncomfortable, and then not being able to fall back asleep due to good ol’ insomnia. Blegh. Life is hell.
Eventually, he managed to fall asleep for a good while, and woke up to sunrise peeking through the curtains. At least it wasn't still completely dark.
He groans and sits up, arching his back to stretch out his pain. It didn't help. His back still hurts. His whole body has been hurting since the-
…
Basil frowns, trying to shake away the memory of what he did. He hates himself for that.
He sighs and stands up, going over to the fridge to look for something to eat. He blinks his eyes, adjusting to the bright light of the fridge.
Before he's able to do so, the phone in the hall rings. He's immensely startled by this and quickly stands up straight, hitting his head on the top of the fridge as a result. He hisses through his teeth, rubbing his forehead.
Once he recovers, he remembers the phone is ringing and dashes to the hall. He quickly picks it up, answering the call. “Hello! Who is this?” He says, catching his breath.
“Uh, Basil?”
“Oh, Kel! G-Good morning! How are you feeling?” Fuck fuck fuck.
Kel breathes deeply, “so, uh, I listened to your voicemail. Surprisingly, before Hero managed to get to it. And, uh… Is… Is he really back?”
“Y-Yeah, he is. He's asleep in my room right now.” Was Kel upset?
Kel lets out his breath, “shit…” He mutters. Did he intend for Basil to hear that? “Okay, um, how?”
“What?”
“Good god Basil… How did he get here?”
“Oh, um… I don't know? I'm assuming he might've walked part of the way, maybe took a bus?”
Kel is quiet. “Hold on. I'll be over sometime soon.”
Wait, what? “Huh? Why are you going to come over?”
“Because, knowing Sunny, he did not take a bus.” And then he hangs up.
…What the fuck. Why did he hang up???
Basil sighs, setting the phone down. Oh well. Now would probably be a good time to check on Sunny.
