Lilith's pov

When I woke up this morning Kadence wasn't sleeping next to me like she usually is. After a shower I get dressed and head down stairs. I run into Talon causing us both to stumble.

"Shit, you came out of nowhere," I say. Talon took a few steps away from me.

"So did you," Talon laughs.

"Do you know where Kadence is?" I asked. Talon nods his head.

"Fae took her to the basement, I think," Talon muttered. I purse my lips.

"You just let her? The fucking human feeders are down there. What are they doing making friends with the palace food source?" I asked.

"I forgot what was in the basement. I don't drink human blood so I never had a need to go down there," Talon brushed it off before heading up the stairs. My jaw tightened as I headed to the basement. Once I was down there I took a deep breath before walking through the door. Humans were everywhere. Their "homes" were glass cubes. The bathrooms were the only private room in their homes. I spin around slowly as I take in the place. My eyes land on Kadence and Fae. Fae had a smile on her face as she pointed to the common room. Kadence had a grimace on her face.

"Fae!" I shouted. Kadence and Fae turned to me. They both walk over to me. There were a few guards stationed around the area. A human walking by held her wrist out towards me. My jaw tightens as I push her wrist away. Kadence raised an eyebrow. The girl walked away. It didn't take long before a guard stopped her.

"The princess didn't dismiss you," he says.

"Stand down and get back to your fucking station!" I snapped at the guard. The guard bowed and retreated from the girl. "Get both of your asses upstairs.. Now!" I shout. Fae and Kadence rush up the stairs. I follow behind them. Once we got upstairs I shut the door behind me. "What the hell were you thinking bringing her down there? Then to point and laugh. What the fuck is wrong with you?" I asked. Fae's eyes widened and she stayed silent.

"I'm sorry. I just wanted to see what was down there," Fae says.

"And you found it funny?" I asked loudly. Fae stayed silent as she bit her bottom lip. I slammed Fae into the wall. "Answer the damn question!"

"Woah. What is going on?" Talon shouted. My jaw clenched.

"They were in the basement," I say, stepping away from Fae.

"I don't see why this is upsetting you so much," Talon says. I turn around and face my cousin.

"You don't understand? Do you even know what it's like down there? There was a fucking reason your mother raised you and your brother on animal blood and it isn't because human blood is addicting to many vampires!" I shout. I grab Talon by the back of his neck and shove him to the basement stairs. We walk down and Talon looks around.

"Oh," Talon says. I storm back up the stairs. I walk past Kadence and Fae. "Where are you going?"

"I got to get away from you Talon, because you took one look down there and all you could say was oh," I say.

"What am I supposed to say?" Talon questioned.

"Oh I don't know? Maybe you could acknowledge the problem and fix it!" I shout.

"That is this palace's food source, how the hell am I supposed to fix it without killing the people?" Talon asked. I felt sick hearing him say that.

"It was a mistake to let you and your brother become king," I whisper.

"What?" Talon asked. I looked up and looked him dead in the eye.

"I made a mistake sitting aside and letting two complete morons become king," I say. Fae and Kadence gasp.

"Yeah it was. I was wondering when you were going to realize, Lilith. Griffin and I are struggling here. We are in over our heads. We know nothing of ruling over a kingdom. Why do you think we both agreed? We weren't raised to rule like you were. You and your mother practically threw us in the water and hoped we could swim. You were away for months and did not see how bad we were doing!" Talon shouted back. I shake my head.

"You should have realized it when we said it was calm. When has it ever been calm when running a kingdom?" Talon asked.

"When you run it right!" I shout before I turn around. The guard pulled the front door open for me.

"Great, Run away, Lilith. That's how my brother and I got into this fucking mess in the first place!" Talon shouted after me. I spun around.

"I am walking away so you can live another day, Talon. I am so fucking close to ripping your head off right now!" I turn around and walk out of the castle. I rushed out of the gate before I was let out beyond the wall. My hands clenched and unclenched. My dad's house came into view. Kaylen and my dad were sitting in the sun.

"What's wrong?" Kaylen asked. My breathing was uneven. My chest was tight and I struggled to breath. Was this a panic attack? I gasped for air. My hands shook as I unclenched them.

"Lilith," my dad says. Kadence wrapped her arms around my waist. I turn around and wrap my arms around her. I lift her up causing Kadence to wrap her legs around my waist. She buried her head in my neck. She placed a few kisses on my neck. When she noticed that didn't help me to relax she ran her tongue across my neck. My stomach tightens as I tighten my arms around her.

"The rooms are fully soundproof if you need a moment with her," my dad says. Kadence chuckles as she runs her tongue across my neck again. I walk into the house and go to one of the guest rooms. There were three or four bedrooms in this cabin. I shut the door and lock the door. I lay down on the bed. Kadence laid on top of me. She ran her hands through my hair soothingly.

"You know that was your cousin's cry for help right?" Kadence says.

"I know," I muttered.

"I don't think they ever wanted to take over but they had to because you didn't. They want you to take over, Lilith," Kadence says. I let out a sigh.

"It isn't that easy, love. I walked away from the crown to be with you. It's up to the elders to decide if I'm worthy to take over something I so easily gave up. If they decide to let me take over then it won't just be me taking over. We're mated you will also be crowned queen. I don't know if you're ready for that. I don't want you to feel like you don't have a choice because you literally won't if the elders choose to crown me," I say. My hands ran over Kadence's back. She looked me in the eyes.

"As long as you are by my side I will be fine, Lilith. We are in this together. It's been like that since you marked and took me to bed. There is no changing that now. It's time you start thinking of your people instead of only me," Kadence says.

"If I start thinking of others then I have no time to think of my beautiful mate," I smile. My eyes roam over her face. Kadence chuckles before leaning in to kiss me. She brushed her lips over mine but never connected them fully. "Now you're just teasing me," I groan.

"Isn't that what you did when we first met?" Kadence asked. I chuckle while gripping Kadence's hips. I flipped us over so I was hovering over Kadence. My tongue glides across my mark and up Kadence's throat. A moan leaves her throat. "Damn your ability to turn me on so quickly," Kadence smiles before she pulls my head down and connects our lips.

Our lips move together slowly. Kadence's tongue teased me. She would lick my bottom lip before pulling her tongue back when I would open my mouth for her. The next time she licked my lip I was quick enough to run my tongue against hers. Kadence moaned, causing me to smirk. I pull away from Kadence. Kadence bit her lips as her eyes searched my face.

Slowly I pull her shirt off and toss it to the side. I slowly trail kisses down Kadence's neck. I playfully bite my mark causing Kadence to gasp.
