Trinity, her mother Darcy, and her younger brother Jabari, who eagerly joined them, embarked on their yearly Thanksgiving shopping at Kroger's the following day.

Upon stepping into the supermarket, they were welcomed by the many displays of Thanksgiving decorations; their appetites lowkey excited for the feast to come—knowing that they were going to eat good.

The elderly lady who took charge of the shopping list had her pen ready to scratch against the paper to check off each item.

"Alright y'all, first stop, produce aisle. We need to get them collard greens, onions, and green peppers" She declared, her voice carrying the authority of someone who knew her way around the kitchen.

Which she did.

"Y'all got lucky 'cause we had to hit the store today. Otherwise, we'd be stuck right at that church" The woman added sternly since it was Sunday, casting a glance at her two children.

Despite Tink going into her thirties, her mother still spoke to her as if she were a teenager. Yet, she wasn't angered or bothered by it; after all, her mother was still her mother and that was naturally how she talked.

However, this Thanksgiving, Darcy felt a sense of relief as she was able to step back from her typical role as the cook and host, all thanks to Trinity's husband, who invited everyone to their house to eat and celebrate.

Darcy was starting to get fed up with being the sole person responsible for decorating her house for every holiday year after year. She pondered when her daughter would step up now that she was older, especially since Darcy herself was aging and no longer wanted to keep up the tradition.

But she was kind enough to accompany Trinity to the store because Tink wanted to recreate part of her mother's cherished recipe for a specific dish.

"I'll get the greens, momma. Gotta make sure we get the best ones" Ten-year-old Jabari chimed in, his eyes scanning the array of leafy vegetables.

"Alright nie, don't go too far. People are crazy"

The boy nodded and dashed away to carry out his task, leaving the two women on their own as Trinity pushed the cart, trailing behind her mother in silence. Darcy couldn't help but notice her daughter's unusual quietness during the ride here, prompting her to turn and look at her with a sense of curiosity.

"Why you all quiet now? Ran out of tea to spill?"

Tink couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head slightly at her mother. "No, I'm just thinking about what outfit I'm going to wear"

She straight-up lied with a poker face.

Opening up to her mother about the crumbling state of her marriage with Meech was something she desperately wanted to avoid.

Everyone in her family, even her father, loved Meech. He had his act all together, treated Trinity right, and was very stable, and respectful.

When the couple first met at a pregame bash before a big summer concert and hit it off instantly, then started dating a year later before tying the knot, Trinity's folks were over the moon. They hadn't seen her vibe with someone so tight and so fast before.
