Days had passed since that unsettling morning, and while what happened still lingered in the back of Tink's mind, the world was moving on. Christmas Eve had finally arrived, and outside, delicate snowflakes began to drift down, covering the world in a serene white blanket.
The holiday spirit was definitely in the atmosphere at Dayvon's house, where the scent of gingerbread cookies and the soft crackle of the fireplace filled the air. Kai had been staying with his father and Trinity for the past two to three days now, and he had been having the best time of his life. He was so happy, having gone ice skating, got a new phone, visited Santa for pictures, and watched a lot of Christmas movies.
They were currently getting ready to attend the Secret Santa gathering at Von's parent's house. It was nearly seven o'clock, and Trinity remembered that Von had mentioned this event to her days before, but she had completely forgotten amid everything else going on.
"Trinity...do I have to go back to my mommy's house after this?" Kasim suddenly asked, breaking the silence with his voice which was laced with sadness. He looked up at the woman with wide, anxious eyes, his lower lip trembling as he fidgeted with the zipper of his Christmas-themed pajamas—as if trying to hold on to the comfort of the moment.
Yep, that's right—the three of them were all dressed in soft matching onesie pajamas. The colors were a mix of white, green, and red patterns, featuring Christmas designs such as festive snowflakes. They were so adorable.
"Aww sweetie" Trinity looked down at him, her heart sinking at the sight of his expression. She crouched beside him, her hand gently brushing over his hair, her frown softening with empathy.
"You don't have to go back to your mommy right now, but eventually, you'll have to. She misses you and will be really happy to see you again. But for now, let's make the most of our time together tonight okay? Don't think about that right now"
She paused, her eyes searching his face as she spoke slowly, choosing her words with care. "It's okay to feel that way too. Your mommy and daddy love you a lot, and so do I"
Kasim's eyes then filled with tears, and he blinked rapidly, trying to hold them back. "But...but mommy said we're moving. If we're leaving, that means I have to leave Daddy" He said, his voice breaking.
His small hands clutched the edges of his onesie as the tears finally spilled over. The realization that he had to leave his dad and the comforting environment he loved was too much for him to bear, and he began to cry, his sobs quiet but intense.
It made Trinity immediately wrap her arms around him, pulling him close. "Oh baby," She murmured softly, holding him tight. "Sometimes grown-ups make decisions that can be tough for us, but they do it because they think it's best for everyone. I know it's hard to think about leaving your daddy, and I'm really sorry. But you'll still get to see him, and you'll have special times with him whenever you can"
