It felt like December had barely started before Christmas came around quicker than anyone expected, catching everyone by surprise with how fast the season had flown by. The morning was filled with that special kind of excitement, the kind that only kids can really feel deep down.
Kasim, barely able to contain how happy he was, woke up at the first hint of daylight creeping through his bedroom window. He blinked, eyes adjusting to the soft glow of the morning light—and for a moment, he lay still, remembering what day it was.
Immediately, a grin spread across his face as he bolted upright in bed. It was Christmas—finally! The day he'd been counting down to for weeks. Without wasting a second, he jumped out of bed, his tiny feet padding quickly across the floor as he dashed down the hallway. His mind raced with thoughts of gifts, imagining all the toys, games, and surprises waiting under the tree.
Reaching Dayvon and Trinity's room, Kai then hesitated just a moment before pushing the door open with a burst of energy that only a child could muster. He bounced onto the bed, causing the mattress to dip slightly as he crawled up between the two adults who were still nestled in the comfort of their sheets.
"Wake up! Wake up!" His voice was filled with joy, his little hands shaking Von's shoulder first, then Tink's. "It's Christmas! Santa came! I know he did!"
Dayvon groaned, his hand instinctively reaching up to rub the sleep from his eyes. He blinked, trying to adjust to the sudden onslaught of enthusiasm. Kasim's excitement was infectious though, and despite the weight of exhaustion still hanging over the man, a smile began to tug at the corners of his mouth.
Whereas Trinity, still half-asleep, let out a soft laugh as she turned over to see Kasim's bright, eager face staring down at her. "Good morning pooh," She murmured, her voice warm with affection. "You're up early"
Kasim eagerly nodded in response. "It's Christmas. We gotta open presents!" He turned to his father, tugging at his arm. "Come on daddy, get up. I wanna see if Santa brought me what I asked for"
Dayvon sat up slowly, stretching out the stiffness from his muscles, a reminder of the night before. He glanced at the clock on the nightstand; it was still early but he could see there would be no going back to sleep now.
Kasim's excitement was too much to ignore, and honestly, he didn't want to miss the joy of seeing his son's face light up as they started the day.
He also knew they'd be stopping by Trinity's parent's house, where he'd finally meet her family, including her grandma—a big deal in his eyes. Meeting someone's grandma always felt special to him. Plus, Kasim was excited to see Jabari again.
"Ight, ight, we're up" He said with a yawn, pulling Kasim into a quick embrace before scooting to the edge of the bed. Trinity followed suit, sitting up and pushing her hair back, still in that half-asleep, half-awake state that comes with the early morning.
