All the magnolia trees in the city had bloomed, their petals unfolding like white sails. The streets were completely transformed, bathed in their beautiful light.
The air carried their sweet fragrance, a nice break from the noise of the city. The magnolias stood tall like protectors, watching over the city.
A stylish black commercial vehicle cruised through the city streets, finally pulling up at "Xiang Yue Communication." It slowly came to a stop in front of the office building.
The driver said, "Mr. Xiang, we're arrived at the company now."
Xiang Mingzhang opened his eyes and rubbed his knuckles on his forehead to fight off his tiredness. Earlier that day, he had been at a long meeting hosted by the Municipal Information Department, so he needed a short break during his journey.
Also, keeping it simple, Xiang Mingzhang had decided not to bring any assistants with him to the meeting. He got out of the car alone, carrying a heavy information booklet and laptop.
When he got back to his office, it only took two minutes for his secretary to bring him a cup of coffee. Going through the meeting materials, Xiang Mingzhang asked, "Are the sales and pre-sales managers here?"
The secretary quickly responded, "Yes, they're all here."
Checking the time on his watch, Xiang Mingzhang said, "Let them know we're having a meeting in fifteen minutes. Tell them to head to the R&D center and get the engineer supervisor."
The secretary offered a reminder, "Mr. Xiang, time is running thin. We are scheduled to depart for Yaxiwan later and finalize the contract with Yisi tonight."
Looking up finally, Xiang Mingzhang realized that the equity acquisition was a big deal. He had totally forgotten about it, maybe because the other party wouldn't stop bothering him about it.
"Yisi Technology" used to be a big player in the industry. But after its founder, Chu Zhe, died four years ago, the company fell apart due to internal fighting. Executives left, clients left, and its reputation went downhill fast.
Chu Zhe's shares went to his son and daughter, but the daughter was still in school. So, they couldn't really turn things around.
Chu Zhichen, the son, was technically in charge but was off the rails. He lived a wild life, wasting the family's money on parties, gambling, and other bad stuff.
Even though Chu Zhichen was the oldest son, he was pretty useless. Year after year, the company kept losing money, and he didn't care. Instead of trying to fix things, he threw fits and even tried to harm himself. He pressured Mrs. Chu to sell their shares to invest in his schemes with his pals.
Thinking Yisi had some hope left, Xiang Mingzhang reached out. The Xiang and Chu families had been buddies for a long time, and even though their connection faded after Chu's death, they still had history. Xiang Mingzhang's offer was really good, and they both agreed to it.
Throughout the talks, the Chu family let their lawyers handle everything. But right before signing the contract, Chu Zhichen lost it. He wanted to have the signing party on a yacht.
Not keen on spending a night at sea and not interested in Chu Zhichen's party scene, Xiang Mingzhang brushed off the invitation.
After careful consideration, he instructed his secretary to summon Peng Xin.
Peng Xin, director of the sales department and a trusted confidant of Xiang Mingzhang, possesssed considerable experience and networking skills.
Upon entering the office, Peng Xin inquired, "Mr. Xiang, did you need something from me?"
