The car sales showroom was eerily quiet. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting a harsh light on the empty floor. The only sound was the occasional creak of the floorboards as someone walked by.
In the corner of the showroom, a small vehicle sat alone. It was a bright pink hatchback, a color that was rarely seen on cars.
Two staff members idled on the sofa, absorbed in their mobile phones. They briefly glanced at Chu Zhichen and Xiang Mingzhang but made no effort to engage with potential customers.
Undeterred, Chu Zhichen calmly approached the car. After a while, the manager of the 4S store emerged from a small office and inquired, "Hello, what can I assist you with?"
Stepping closer to the vehicle, Chu Zhichen stated, "I'm interested in purchasing a car. Is this the only one available?"
The manager responded, "Currently, this is the sole car in our inventory. It is priced at around 100,000."
Curiosity piqued, Chu Zhichen opened the car door to examine the interior. The manager, left with little choice, reluctantly accompanied him, providing a perfunctory introduction to the car's performance.
Sensing the manager's lack of enthusiasm, Chu Zhichen inquired, "Can you obtain one in black?"
Regretfully, the manager apologized, "Unfortunately, I'm unable to fulfill that request. Is the Porsche parked outside yours? Our store may not be able to meet your expectations."
As a salesperson, it is essential to go the extra mile to win over customers, particularly when encountering a distinguished one. There is no valid reason for the manager and the two attendants to actively dismiss potential clients. Their attitude indicates that this store is accustomed to half-hearted efforts.
Chu Zhichen proposed, "The Porsche belongs to a friend. Regardless, can you provide interior maintenance services?"
The manager replied, "Sorry, we can't service that model. Additionally, the door to the backyard maintenance area is currently closed."
Chu Zhichen probed, "Why? Is it closed for business?"
With vagueness in his response, the manager divulged, "Business has been challenging."
Meanwhile, Xiang Mingzhang explored the other side of the store and discovered several self-balancing scooters. He adopted an alias to conceal his true identity and said, "Zhichen."
Chu Zhichen failed to comprehend, muttering, "...Huh?"
Xiang Mingzhang clarified, "Choose one."
Curiously, Chu Zhichen raised an eyebrow, silently questioning his intent.
Xiang Mingzhang smiled mischievously and deliberately remarked, "They are all rather high-end. Which color do you prefer?"
The manager mentioned that there were only a few left, and they were currently on sale. Additionally, the purchase of a scooter would include a complimentary safety helmet.
Chu Zhichen selected a dark gray one and exited the 4S store. Adjacent to it was a convenience store, where they sought refuge from the rain and purchase two bottles of mineral water.
At the checkout, Xiang Mingzhang requested the most expensive pack of cigarettes from the shop owner.
Engaging in light conversation, the shop owner happily remarked, "I noticed you were looking at the car next door."
Xiang Mingzhang expressed mild disdain, stating, "Indeed, but they don't have any remarkable cars."
In a hushed tone, the shop owner disclosed, "That store is on the verge of shutting down. Our store pays the rent annually, and I doubt the one next door will make it through the end of the year. The employees in the car repair department have already been let go."
