Xiang Mingzhang deftly maneuvered the steering wheel, redirecting their course towards Yunjiao.
The entrance to the bar was firmly shut and locked. Xiang Mingzhang led Chu Zhichen through a small side door, granting them access to the refurbished old bungalow.
The first and second floors comprised Yunjiao, while Xu Liao resided on the third floor.
Upon their arrival, the sound of a dog's barking echoed through the house. Xu Liao swiftly appeared and warmly exclaimed, "Mr. Xiang, Secretary Chu, weren't you coming to have a drink with me?"
Xiang Mingzhang and Chu Shichen entered the room, finding the living room in disarray. Just as they settled down, a Doberman Pinscher approached, sniffing curiously. Chu Zhichen visibly tensed up, prompting Xiang Mingzhang to swiftly grab the collar around the dog's neck, pulling it close and reassuring, "It's all right."
Xu Liao poured two glasses of water and brought them over, asking, "Is Secretary Chu afraid of dogs?"
Chu Zhichen mustered a slight smile and replied, "No worries." He had never owned such a large dog before, so he took out his phone to discuss their business, stating, "Mr. Xu, it seems that I have come across Alan."
He proceeded to show Xu Liao the video, playing it repeatedly and comparing over 200 profile photos. Eventually, he identified a man who bore a striking resemblance to the figure in the video, differing only in hairstyle length.
During the journey, Chu Zhichen had sent the photo to Peng Xin for identification. It had been too long, and Peng Xin couldn't be completely certain, but he mentioned a resemblance to the former bass player.
Xu Liao watched the video once more and inquired, "When was this video filmed?"
"On the final day of a business trip in Shenzhen," Xiang Mingzhang explained. "We were shopping in Guangzhou."
The man captured in the video stood across the alley, fixated on the video store window. Xu Liao pondered, "Was it merely a chance encounter, or is he intentionally tracking your movements?"
Chu Zhichen recalled a passing motorcycle while watching the video. He had caught a glimpse of someone in the rearview mirror but failed to discern any details amidst the bustling crowd.
Could it be that person was following him?
Xiang Mingzhang wondered aloud, "If that's the case, when did he start tailing us? How did he even know we were in Guangzhou?"
Chu Zhichen couldn't fully comprehend the situation, stating, "Something doesn't feel right."
"Indeed, it doesn't." Xu Liao affirmed. "Assuming he is indeed Alan and has some connection to the yacht explosion, he vanished immediately after the incident, out of fear of being discovered. So why would he reappear near someone involved?"
Chu Zhichen instantly grasped the contradictory nature of the situation, remarking, "Could it be that he is afraid I might recognize him if I were to see him?"
Xiang Mingzhang chimed in, reminding them, "But you've lost your memory, and you've never laid eyes on him."
Chu Zhichen leaned back against the sofa, tilting his head as he caught sight of a photo hanging on the wall. It appeared to have been taken in the past, depicting Xu Liao dressed in a foreign police uniform, leading Du Bin. Both man and dog exuded an air of grandeur.
Curiosity piqued, he asked, "What would drive a thief, who failed to obtain their target, to actively seek out the owner?"
Xu Liao candidly replied, "The chances of an apology seem incredibly slim."
