The following morning, Chu Shichen freshened up, changed his attire, and made his way downstairs. Xiang Mingzhang and Zhou Kesen were already seated at the dining table engaged in conversation.
Zhou Kesen remarked, "The breakfast we ordered just arrived. Sit down and enjoy it while it's still hot."
"Alright," Chu Zhichen pulled out a chair and realized that when he woke up, there was no one beside him. Unaware of Xiang Mingzhang's departure, he casually inquired, "Mr. Xiang, what time did you wake up?"
Xiang Mingzhang had risen early that morning for a jog and had taken out the "trash" he had packed the night before. Now donning a suit and leather shoes, exuding an air of disciplined professionalism, he responded, "One hour before you."
Chu Zhichen remarked, "I slept for quite some time."
"It's alright. If you're feeling tired, take the opportunity to rest," Xiang Mingzhang solemnly stated.
Listening to their exchange, Zhou Kesen was left in the dark, unable to comprehend any hidden meanings in their words.
He set down his soy milk and interjected, "Did you two not find it noisy last night?"
Chu Zhichen suddenly felt a pang of guilt and cautiously asked, "Uncle Sen, did you not sleep well?"
Xiang Mingzhang made a daring assumption, "Was there any noise coming from upstairs?"
"That's not the case," Zhou Kesen replied. "My bedroom faces the garden, and there are several trees outside the window. In the middle of the night, I can only hear the chirping of birds."
Xiang Mingzhang jokingly added, "As long as there aren't any stray cats causing a ruckus."
Chu Zhichen remained silent and quietly sipped his porridge. Once finished, he immediately got up and went to inspect the cloakroom.
The fallen incense diffuser stone was placed back, the wet marks on the island countertop were wiped clean, the flannel carpet was laid out, and all the trash had been removed.
The room was gently brushed by the breeze, carrying a faint scent of disinfectant. Chu Zhichen couldn't help but imagine Xiang Mingzhang cleaning the room and letting out a low smile into his porridge.
Underneath the table, Xiang Mingzhang subtly bumped Chu Zhichen's leg with his knee as if giving him a warning.
After breakfast, Zhai Feng arrived on time to pick Chu Zhichen up, and they departed from the villa towards the Science and Technology Park.
This morning, they had a meeting with the management to review and summarize the contents of the annual report for the Southeast Region.
On the way, Chu Zhichen reviewed the internal information, familiarizing himself with the names and positions of each leader. Upon arriving at the branch, he exchanged greetings before everyone gathered and entered the conference room.
Due to the extensive content, it was considered a significant meeting, chaired by Xiang Mingzhang, and continued uninterrupted until the afternoon.
Seated in the vice-president's position, Chu Zhichen was responsible for taking notes. Occasionally, his thoughts would wander, resulting in him momentarily forgetting his role as the secretary. In those instances, another staff member would quickly take over for him.
While passing by the secretary's office, Xiang Mingzhang caught a glimpse of someone other than Chu Zhichen. When he stayed late to work overtime, it was not in Chu Zhichen's company. And when he needed a pen refill or had a stomachache, it was not Chu Zhichen who walked over to his desk and opened the drawer.
