No one overheard the final words exchanged between grandparent and grandchild.
All they could perceive was Xiang Xingzhao's overwhelming physical exhaustion. He released his grip on Xiang Mingzhang's shoulders with both hands, and his entire body collapsed like a falling mountain.
Swiftly, Xiang Mingzhang clasped Xiang Xingzhao's frail elbow, consisting only of a few remnants of dry bones.
He guided him back into the wheelchair, bending over to support the armrests on both sides. "Grandpa is the most important person to me. Since it is his wish, I will fulfill it without fail," he declared.
Xiang Kun inquired, "You agree, but when will Xiang Long come back?"
"It seems that Uncle misses his brother deeply," Xiang Mingzhang responded. "With so many witnesses, I cannot go back on my word. Do not worry, Xiang Long will return once all the necessary procedures have been completed."
The eldest aunt exclaimed, "Finally, our family will be reunited."
Sitting paralyzed, Xiang Xingzhao's complexion turned ashen and distorted, visibly reflecting the severity of his state.
Xiang Huan added, "Alright, let Dad return to the ward and rest."
Xiang Kun reached out to assist, but Xiang Mingzhang turned the wheelchair around. He guided Xiang Xingzhao back to the ward, with the rest of the Xiang family following closely behind.
Following the kidnapping incident, Xiang Xingzhao's health declined further. Numerous indicators exhibited dangerous values, and he struggled to consume food. His weight had dropped to less than 100 catties, and he was nearly the same height as Xiang Mingzhang.
A group of experts and doctors examined Xiang Xingzhao. The worse his condition became, the less they divulged to the patient. They merely suggested hospitalization to the family members.
Both Xiang Kun and Xiang Huan agreed, while Xiang Mingzhang stood at the foot of the bed and said, "I will arrange for staff to take care of you during your hospital stay, so as not to burden everyone else."
Xiang Kun asked, "What do you mean?"
Xiang Mingzhang replied, "I want to dutifully care for my grandfather."
Xiang Rugang interjected, "Grandpa has three grandchildren, and I am the eldest of this generation. How can I let you shoulder the burden alone?"
Xiang Mingzhang retorted, "You all claim that Grandpa loves me the most, so I should contribute more."
Xiang Rugang scoffed, "That's simply because your father is not here. Grandpa pities you. Do not take yourself too seriously."
Xiang Mingzhang remained unaffected, speaking sincerely and with regret. "I wish someone would take you, the eldest son and grandson, seriously, to divert the attention of the kidnappers away from me."
Xiang Kun and his aunt were slightly disgruntled upon hearing this, while Xiang Rugang grew even angrier. As for Xiang Ruxu, he remained silent as he disliked being entangled in conflicts.
He voiced, "Grandpa has already made up his mind, so let him decide."
Lying supine on the bed, Xiang Xingzhao knew he was not at death's door, but he understood that struggling would be futile. He sighed, "I will follow Mingzhang's suggestions."
The assistant waited outside, and as Xiang Mingzhang turned to leave, he paused abruptly. "I noticed that the lawyers for the elderly are also here. Should we call them in?"
Nobody responded, prompting Xiang Mingzhang to continue, "During the kidnapping, Uncle Qi coerced me into signing a will. I remember its contents and the intended beneficiary. Uncle Qi is quite amusing, as he did not request a single penny for himself."
