Chapter 12: Bleeding Wrist

With the moon in the clear sky, Bernadette, Annalise, Benjamin and Jesse are back on the road. Annalise and Bernadette in the front of the car while Jesse and Benjamin are in the back of the car, sitting on the makeshift bed, Benjamin stares at the sky, choosing to ignore Jesse. Jesse looks at him.
"Do you know where we are going" She asks.
"Shut up Jesse..." he says softly with his arms behind his head.
"Excuse me?" She scoffs. Benjamin sits up.
"You're a real bitch Y'know that? You put Annalise through nothing but hell for as long as I've known her and we didn't exactly speak to each other often but she always seemed like a lovely girl! Why treat her the way you do? Even when most of the state is dead? You'd think you want to try to keep your allies close" he sighs. Jesse clenches her jaw.
"Because I always knew there was something weird about that little blonde freak! Guess what? I was right, because her dad is the one who made the big bomb in the first place!" She slams her hand on the car.
"Well Annalise didn't know it existed! How is that her fault!" He shouts.
Jesse scoffs.
"Trust me, that type of crazy will run in the family won't it?"
"You tell me, technically we've all got the same blood type right? Maybe this blood type just makes you crazy?" Benjamin says.
"Oh c'mon! you know that's not what I meant!" Jesse yells. Benjamin rolls his eyes and turns away from her. Jesse sighs.

Annalise puts her hand on Bernadette's shoulder and Bernadette jumps slightly. Annalise chuckles.
"You ok Bernadette? You're awfully quiet and jumpy." She asks. Bernadette sighs and nods.
"Of course I'm fine, really..I'm fine bunny I promise." Bernadette smiles and Annalise rolls her eyes.
"Are you ever going to stop calling me bunny?"
She sighs. Bernadette shakes her head.
"No, because I like it. We're friends, and it's like my own little nickname for you as a symbol of our friendship Y'know? Everyone needs a little fun and hope in a time like this."
Annalise laughs and moves her hand away from Bernadette's shoulder.
"You seem to know a lot about Zombie Apocalypses"
Bernadette sighs with a smile.
"Well I've watched a few too many zombie movies." She says and shakes her head slightly.
Annalise smiles and stares out the front windshield.
"Hey Bernadette?"
Bernadette smiles again.
"Yea?"
"The bomb only hit our state right? What if we drove across states. I think we've got enough food and water to get to the next state over, then we can get more supplies and drive a few states away from here to escape the spread until we figure out something long term?" Annalise suggests. Bernadette reaches her hand up and ruffles Annalise's hair.
"That's a great plan! You're amazing.." Bernadette says. Annalise smiles and then feels a drip on her head.
"Hm?" She touches her forehead and Bernadette quickly moves her hand away from Annalise.
"Bernadette are you bleeding?" Annalise asks with a worried expression and wide eyes as she tries to grab Bernadette's wrist.
"I'm fine! I must've just cut my wrist on a branch or something, I'll bandage it up ok?" Bernadette says, parking the car and opening the door.
"Ok..you want help?" Annalise asks.
"No, if I need help, I'll get help from Benjamin in the back" Bernadette responds and walks to the back of the car.

Benjamin looks at Bernadette.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asks.
Bernadette smiles.
"Yea, just cut my wrist on a branch or something..." she grabs bandages and starts wrapping her wrist and hand.
"Walk it off Bernie you'll be fine" Jesse buts in.
Bernadette gives them both a thumbs up.
"By the way, Annalise suggested we drive out of state, try to get some help" she adds.
"Ok! That sounds like a good shout" Benjamin nods. Jesse rolls her eyes.
"Sure fine..that's not a half bad plan I suppose" she says and glances at Benjamin.
Bernadette nods and gets back into the drivers seat.
"All bandaged up? Good." Annalise smiles.
Bernadette nods with a weak smile and takes a deep breath and starts to drive.
"Next state over, here we come!" Annalise laughs.
