I sealed the envelope after writing my letter, stamping it with wax and neatly writing his name on the front of the envelope. I held the letter in front of me, a small smile touched my face, just seeing his name on this letter.
Sure, I've been curious over the years, who is this absolute heartthrob of a man behind these letters all these years. We're the same age, yet he seems so much cooler than I'll ever be.
He's in a band, guitarist and writes lyrics. Though, in his letters he always asks me to make him lyrics, cause he thinks that mine sound the best in his songs.
I had to suppress my curiosity tightly, I didn't want to ruin what we had, that being a sole penpal relationship only. It was fun, not being able to search each other up, or figure out what city he lives in.
All I knew was that he was a rather rebellious guy who knew how to handle a guitar right.
My sister burst into my room, she was older than I was, by four years, yet still lived with our parents - talk about jobless.
She groaned, rolling her eyes as she noticed me at my desk, holding an envelope.
"Please tell me you are not writing to that guy again." Eunmi flung herself onto my bed, laying back and staring at her phone.
"So what? You're twenty three - almost twenty four and still living in this house. Jesus." I scoffed, spinning my chair around to look at her.
She shot right back up, sitting up from my bed and looking directly at me.
"God my younger sister is so disrespectful, who the hell taught her to be like this." She furrowed her brows, shaking her head and then proceeded to lay back down and stare at her phone again.
"Anyways, I'm going to go post this to him, so if you graciously allow me, I'll go do so now." I jeered, standing up and proceeding to walk off after hearing Eunmi chuckle at my words.
I walked over to our staircase, and out of nowhere, completely abruptly, my mother began yelling at my father downstairs.
I sat on the top stair, wondering what the issue was now. It was a pretty frequent thing nowadays, my mother was always on edge nowadays, for what? I have no idea.
But this time it seemed kind of serious. I sat and eavesdropped, I wasn't worried, or scared, they'd reconcile the next day and it'd be as if nothing had happened.
"WHO IS THIS? EXPLAIN TO ME. I KNEW IT, ALL THESE MONTHS, I KNEW SOMETHING WAS COMPLETELY OFF." My mother was in hysterics of rage.
"Ji-eun, Ji-eun! Listen to me!! Listen!" My father tried to plead her, and from what it seemed, my mother actually had a reason to be mad at him.
"You want to ruin all these years of marriage for a twenty one year old woman? Yong-pil, your eldest daughter is almost twenty four for god's sake!!!" I could hear her voice breaking, and as her words echoed upstairs, my mouth dropped, eyes widened.
Eunmi spared no time, running towards the staircase and sitting beside me on the top, just listening through the conversation too.
She turned her head to look at me, bewildered.
"Did she just say.. what I think she said?" Eunmi was in the same state as me, paralysed in pure shock and dread.
"Ji-eun, I didn't mean any of this, I was just.. I don't know, I just.." My father panicked, trying to think of an excuse to justify his infidelity.
"GET THE FUCK OUT! Yong-pil, you have disgraced me, and your two children. You cheated on me with a woman that's the same age as your daughters. You're truly sick." My mother persisted, evident shoving was heard, and me and Eunmi just stared at each other.
There was no word to describe our feelings right now, besides from complete disgust.
"No, Ji-eun, you can't. I can't lose my family, Ji-eun, please. Forgive me." My father was begging for his family back, but I knew my mother would not spare his ass a single bit.
Eunmi and I walked downstairs, only greeted to a view of my father kneeling down, begging my mother for forgiveness as she just gave exasperated sighs.
The two turned around, and my father got up from his knees immediately, staring at us in shock.
"Eunmi, Haeun.. oh my daughters.." He tried to talk with softness, as if we didn't just hear the entire half of the argument they just had.
"Woah, no no. Absolutely not." I backed away as Eunmi did the same, both looking at him, truly appalled.
"You cheated, on our mother? Your own wife you swore to never cheat on?" Eunmi scoffed, shaking her head and folding her arms, "I don't even want to consider you my father."
