Chapter 28

Yu.

Bondita clutched Anirudh's hand tightly as they exited the hospital, her face pale and drawn with exhaustion. Anirudh's heart ached as he looked at his wife, knowing the ordeal she had just been through and how fragile she seemed in that moment.

They made their way to the car in silence, the weight of the day's events pressing down on them both. Anirudh opened the door for Bondita and helped her settle into the seat before getting behind the wheel himself.

As they drove home, neither of them spoke, each lost in their own thoughts and fears. The memory of Bondita falling down the stairs replayed in Anirudh's mind, the sound of her screams echoing in his ears. He couldn't shake the image of her lying unconscious at the bottom of the staircase, her life hanging in the balance.

Bondita's hand trembled in his, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Anirudh knew she was blaming herself for what had happened, for the risks she had taken despite her delicate condition. He wanted to comfort her, to reassure her that everything would be alright, but he knew the truth was far more complicated than that.

As they pulled into their driveway, Anirudh turned off the engine and turned to face Bondita. She looked up at him, her eyes filled with a raw vulnerability that tore at his heart.

"We'll get through this, Bondita," he said softly, brushing a stray tear from her cheek. "We'll face this together, whatever comes our way."

Bondita nodded, her lips quivering as she tried to muster a small smile. "I trust you, Anirudh," she whispered. "I trust that you will do everything you can to keep our baby safe."

Anirudh wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as they stood in the quiet of their driveway.

As Anirudh parked the car in front of a charming little roadside kulfi stand, he turned to Bondita, who was lost in her own thoughts, her eyes filled with sadness and worry.

"Look, Bondita, I know things are really hard right now," Anirudh began softly, trying to comfort her. "But we can't lose hope. We have to stay strong, for each other and for the little one we're bringing into this world."

Bondita wiped away a tear that had escaped down her cheek and looked at Anirudh. "I'm scared, Anirudh," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't want anything to happen to our baby."

Anirudh gently took Bondita's hand in his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I understand, Bondita. I'm scared too. But we can't let fear consume us. We have to believe that everything will be okay, that we will get through this together."

Bondita managed a small smile, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "I'm sorry, Anirudh. I didn't mean to bring you down with me."

Anirudh shook his head, his eyes filled with love and determination. "You don't ever have to apologize for feeling scared or sad, Bondita. We're in this together, through thick and thin. And no matter what happens, I'll always be by your side, holding your hand and facing everything with you."

Bondita's heart swelled with love for Anirudh, feeling his unwavering support and love for her. She leaned in and hugged him tightly, finding solace in his embrace. As they sat together, enjoying their kulfi,
