The room was dark, but moonlight bled through the curtains of the window onto the wall behind Hyunjin. He curled his soft but cold blanket closer to himself as he felt himself shiver. The thermostat was broken. It was so quiet. Hyunjin didn't dare take his eyes away from the window, and the occasional lights that jumped from wall to wall as some vehicle passed the street outside. Hyunjin could hear a car driving by the dark street outside and imagine how the car's headlights highlighted uncatchable particles. Hyunjin used to try and catch particles like those when he was younger, while his brother swung around a torch in a dark room.
Hyunjin sighed and started tapping his fingers on the nightstand. His brother wasn't here now. He felt the sky expanding and the stars raining like bullets, only to realize that everything was still. Focused on the dark, chilly silence of the night. He hated how silent it was. It was better when someone was around. Someone he could hear breathing next to him. But there wasn't. There never was, all Hyunjin could do was imagine, because if you want something enough, you'll get it right? All he wanted was someone to be close to, whether they liked him or not.
"Pathetic." Jinnie thought bitterly, and finally dozed off to sleep.
The dawn of March 25
The school bell rang and Hyunjin almost hit his head on the locker door while rummaging through his piles of books, magazine, and even hoodies. Hyunjin sighed, still sleepy from getting four hours of sleep the previous night. This was the most sleep he'd gotten this week, and yet he felt like he wanted to go to sleep again. "Temporary death." Hyunjin thought with an internal smile and locked his locker. He turned around with a book in his hand, and bumped into someone. The boy glared at Hyunjin as his books fell to the floor and Hyunjin shrunk back, "Sorry Lee Know-ssi." Minho glared as he gathered his books, his gaze fixed at Hyunjin who quite literally sprinted away. Minho's eyes softened and he shook his head. He didn't have time to deal with Hyunjin, who always looked afraid of Lee Know. "Felix! You don't want to get late!" Lee Know called to his younger brother, who gladly skipped his way to class... while dragging Lee Know.
Felix immediately sat next to his best friend, Han, who was staring ahead blankly. This year was tough for everyone, in ways one or the other. It almost felt like an apocalypse, but Han knew that Felix could even make that better. Felix froze and whisper-yelled "I.N and Binnie aren't here yet?!" Han chuckled and pointed towards the desk behind them, where I.N and Binnie were sitting. I.N giggled at a phone screen and showed it to Binnie who tried his best not to laugh.
After a while, Felix, I.N, Han, and Changbin were all snickering and scrolling through the phone. Felix said "You guys are so much in trouble for going through my brother's phone." Changbin said "Not my fault his password was 'Yongbok'" I.N stopped laughing for a moment and said "Uh oh... the crazy cat grandma is coming here." Han silently squealed snatching the phone and handing it to Felix; while Changbin turned Felix around to face Lee Know.
Lee Know stormed towards the four and slightly softened as he saw Felix staring at him wide-eyed. "Why is it always him doing unbearable stuff?" Lee Know thought fondly. Lee Know loved his younger brother dearly, but he had to be strict right now. He scowled a little as he walked through the maze of students and bags. The noisy chatter of the students and the scraping of the chairs made Lee Know clench his fists as he took a deep breath.

"Everyone in your seats!" The teacher walked in, already cross as he yelled. Felix quickly shoved the phone towards Lee Know, who grabbed it and scurried back to his seat. Lee Know grumbled under his breath as the teacher started his lecture. Today was going to be an interesting ethics class.
Meanwhile, Hyunjin reached his English class in time. He let out a sigh of relief. Lee Know had always been intimidating. He walked inside the noisy classroom and wondered what he prefered, noisy classrooms or silent bedrooms. He tripped over someone's bag and silently cursed. This was probably the fifth time Hyunjin almost got hurt today. He felt so clumsy. Why were his classmates always acting like rabid animals anyways? They were in high school, not middle school.
He sat down on the last bench right behind Bang Chan. Bang Chan was wearing his headphones and listening to music as usual. Seungmin was sitting next to him reading a chemistry book. Hyunjin had the advantage of sitting at the very back and always being ignored by teachers. No one asked him questions. He was invisible. Hyunjin would have poked Chan's shoulder to say hi, but he decided not to bother him. Chan was the only person Hyunjin remembered having a proper conversation with in class. Hyunjin found Bang Chan rather peculiar. Bang Chan was always nice to everyone. Yet, he considered himself a parasite, living only to be a burden for people. He even had a hoodie with 'PaRaSiTe' written on it.
Seungmin was nice too, at least as far as Hyunjin knew, but Seungmin was always studying. Seungmin never talked or smiled. He was the second most quiet kid in class. The other classmates went back to their seats and went quiet as Ms. Mori walked in. She was their strict and creepy English teacher who aways wore a pink sweater. She smiled widely and said "Turn to page 394." Hyunjin sighed, his throat hurt from staying quiet so long.
In ethics class, everyone were silently writing in their notebooks. Lee Know sighed, he hated sitting alone while the other four passed notes to each other and giggled through class. But who knew, March 25 might be a memorable day.
