The Trap- An SKZ fanfiction

Chapter 8

Hyunjin felt his shoulder scrap on the rough footpath as they threw him out. He got up stumbling and walked to an alleyway to the side of the hospital. It was dark. So dark.

Han was there fighting for his life, and here was Hyunjin fighting to see him.

Hyunjin slid down the wall and buried his face in his knees. He gave up. He listened to his breathing and the sounds from around him. For a moment, everything felt so serene that he thought he was going to heaven. Disappearing into thin air. All the sounds around him became white noise. The hard wall and rough ground felt soft. His clothes felt cozy despite the cool breeze. He closed his eyes and the dark behind his eyelids had patterns of all sorts. Stars and flowers and shapes. Everything Hyunjin cared about was momentarily forgotten. He felt safe.

Meanwhile,

IN screeched. He regretted teaming up with Changbin. Seungmin and Bang Chan were professionals with video games somehow... And Changbin couldn't stop laughing like a dolphin.

Bang Chan suddenly got up and said, "Be right back. I want some water." IN and Changbin nodded doing their own thing while Seungmin eyed the old kid suspiciously, who walked into the kitchen. Something was off about him.

IN said, "Hey, any idea where Felix is? He isn't picking up his phone and he said he'd call me about half an hour ago..." Seungmin shook his head as Changbin said, "He might be busy, you know how protective Lee Know has been ever since he and Hyunjin..."

IN nodded as his brows knit together. "I'm going to try calling Lee Know then." IN said as he stared at Changbin intensely. Changbin's shoulders sagged, "Fine, I will try calling Han." IN nodded proudly as Seungmin chuckled and got up.

Seungmin walked into the kitchen to find Bang Chan sitting on the chair, staring off into space. Seungmin hesitantly approached him and kept a hand on Bang Chan's shoulder. Bang Chan startled and looked at Seungmin. Seungmin raised a brow looking at Bang Chan. 

"Just happy to be here." Chan replied to the silent question. Seungmin smiled a little and nodded, sitting next to him on the chair. Both of them sat in a comfortable silence, looking through the glass window straight at the beautiful moon. The moon shone back, lighting up both of their faces, as they looked at each other and smiled.

Meanwhile also,

Felix frowned as Lee Know said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do what I did today I just... got overwhelmed." Felix sighed and shook his head, "You told them Hyunjin was not Han's brother. Sometimes I wonder why I got such a controlling brother. You used to be just fine when Hyunjin was there but you pushed him away, just like you do with everyone. Now Hyunjin is alone outside wondering if his brother is ok. Not yours, not mine, his younger brother. And to top it off, you tried blaming it on Hyunjin!"

Lee Know breathed, "I know, I was wrong, but you don't know what I'm going through ok?"

"What are you going through that can be worse than what me, Hyunjin, or Han is going through? Huh? Han is fighting for his life, the doctors aren't answering us! My best friend is dying! Hyunjin is stuck in isolation with his manipulative and potentially abusive father, and his brother is.. Why won't you talk to me?" Felix said gently, more concerned than angry. His mind was a jumbled mess, he knew he was missing some piece of information.

Lee Know said, "It doesn't matter." and stood up. Felix looked away. 

The doctor walked out and immediately Felix and Lee Know asked for answers.

"Hwang Han will be fine, but he has a severe fracture in his leg. He's have to take bed rest for about a month. We can talk about the specific details in my office if you're ready?" The doctor said and both Felix and Lee Know sighed in relief. Lee Know said, "Can we meet him first?" The doctor nodded and walked away to give them space. (A/N: I'm not a doctor and I don't have any interest in that field either so just assume whatever happened would happen in real life as well.)

Lee Know walked in first, sitting next to Han and holding his hand gently. Felix looked at Han and then at Lee Know. Felix said, "You know, Han is my best friend and you look more worried about him."

Lee Know doesn't answer. 

Felix takes a seat near Lee Know and makes Lee Know look straight in his yes. "Minho, what's wrong?" Lee Know blinks.

Felix says, "Do you.. like Han?"

Lee Know's eyes widen, "No! Of course not... I just... I can't let anyone get hurt... not under my watch. I don't want to lose anyone else, I've already lost my best friend! I'm not going to- to let him down. I have to protect Han... And you... and.. and I don't-" 

Felix pulls Minho in a hug immediately, "Shh, I'm sorry. I should've known. It's not your fault Minho."

"But I was right there when it happened!"

"Not your fault. You hear me? No arguments, it wasn't your fault."

Lee Know nods a little and whispers quietly, "It wasn't Hyunjin's either."

*click*

Hyunjin heard a faint click of something and willed his eyes to open. Only to be met with a gun pointed towards him and a shady man towering over him. Hyunjin felt himself get pulled back to reality and slowly stood up. Sitting in a dark alley wearing a formal suit was not a good idea.

The man was wearing a black over-sized hoodie and sweatpants. His face wasn't visible in the dark but Hyunjin could definitely see the tattoos on his hands. Hyunjin gulped seeing the gun. The man said in a rough voice, "Take out your wallet and phone." Hyunjin quietly fumbled and gave the man his wallet and phone, remembering everything he had been told, a wallet and a phone weren't worth giving his life over.

The guy smirked keeping the phone in his pocket and checking the wallet casually. As if he wasn't pointing a gun towards a high school student. Hyunjin breathed deeply as the man started walking away, until he turned around. 

"Oh wait pretty boy, what about that watch you are wearing, hand it to me." Hyunjin froze. Out of all days he had to wear his favourite gift and memory from Han, he had to wear that watch tonight.
