Chapter 15

Next day of school,

Hyunjin was looking through his locker, with one arm raised above to touch the top of the locker. He'd hit his head on the top of it so many times that he thought it was better to be prepared. A disadvantage of being tall.

Hyunjin sighed. Usually he felt sad and depressed, or even scared when he was at school, it had become a normal feeling. He felt angry for the first two weeks after Han's accident, angry at himself, but it didn't feel like his fault anymore. Hyunjin and Felix had been texting all evening yesterday, and all of Hyunjin's guilt had washed away.

But now there was a problem. He wasn't sad. He wasn't scared. He wasn't angry. Now he felt empty. Happiness was a vague feeling Hyunjin had quite difficulty meeting the past year. He only felt empty, and numb, and restless. Why did people hate him so much? He used to be loved.

Hyunjin blinked, still leaning in the dark of his locker to avoid the stares of the students in the halls and to quiet down their noise to a background sound. Hyunjin used to be loved, with Lee Know. Was that it? Was Lee Know the only reason he had friends... Hyunjin shuddered as he felt cold and his eyes watered.

He didn't want to be at school. He didn't want to go home. He had no where to go. He was trapped. He was being hunted.

His breathing quickened and he closed his eyes. He wished he could disappear into his locker. He wished he would stop breathing so fast. He wished he could keep pretending that everything was ok. But it wasn't. Nothing was ok.

Hyunjin let a silent scream past his lips, except it wasn't as silent as he expected. He could feel the students' stares burning through his back. Hyunjin almost let out a sob feeling so overwhelmed. The bell rang, he was going to be late for class if he didn't reach class before the last bell. Hyunjin tried to move, but he felt like he was going to faint. He couldn't breathe.

Hyunjin jerked as someone touched his shoulder, thankfully he didn't hit his head on the top. Hyunjin turned around to be met with a pair of eyes filled with concern looking at him. Hyunjin's breath caught as Lee Know whispered, "I heard you scream... Are- are you ok?"

Hyunjin froze. Now he really couldn't breathe. His chest hurt and his eyes watered.

Lee Know swallowed trying not to tear his eyes away from his ex-best friend. It hurt to think they weren't friends anymore. Lee Know felt so guilty and sad. But most of all, he missed his best friend. They had been friends since as long as he could remember. And there were only a few people Lee Know loved. 

Hyunjin growled and pushed Lee Know's hand off of him. He shouted, "Like you care!"

Lee Know blinked back his tears as Hyunjin ran away, forgetting to lock his locker. Lee Know's eyes caught sight of the picture of Lee Know, Han, Felix, and Hyunjin, at the back of the locker. Lee Know's jaw tightened and he closed the locker. He closed his eyes, leaning his back against the locker, uncaring of the last bell that rang. He looked around the empty hall and sighed.

He walked outside, he wanted to go home to Han, and that's where he'd go.

On the other hand, Hyunjin ran through the school halls to ethics class. Before the bell could ring, Hyunjin found Felix, grabbed his wrist and pulled him outside.

Felix gasped, "Hyunjin-ah! The bell is about to go! I'll get late!" Hyunjin let go of Felix wrist, his back to Felix. Felix narrowed his eyes, "Hyunjinnie?"

Hyunjin didn't answer. Felix turned him around and saw tears in Hyunjin's eyes.

Hyunjin stepped closer to Felix and whispered, trying not to cry, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I just- please, just this once, stay with me? Please, just one class. I don't want to be alone." Tears streamed down his face.

Felix's eyes watered as the bell rang. Hyunjin whispered quietly, "I promise I won't bother you again. I just..." Hyunjin stopped talking, leaning his face forward so his hair cover his eyes and hide his tears.

Felix glared at the students around who looked at Hyunjin weirdly. He pulled Hyunjin to a nearby janitor's closet. Hyunjin slid down the wall with his back and said, "I can't do this anymore." Felix knelt down to him and took Hyunjin's face in his hands gently. 

Hyunjin felt more tears pouring out of his eyes. Felix said, "I'd always be here when you need me. Don't care about me missing classes silly." Hyunjin looked into Felix's eyes. Felix sat on the floor and said, "I'm here. I'm listening. Talk Jinnie."

They kept eyes contact for a while and Hyunjin said, "You're eyes are so pretty." Felix blinked. Hyunjin said, "Who allowed you to be so pretty?" Felix tilted his head with a small smile. Hyunjin slurred, "You really glow when you smile." 

Felix asked, "Why do you sound drunk?" Hyunjin narrowed his eyes at himself, "Haven't eaten anything in a while. Dad doesn't cook... or order any grocery for me to cook. He eats out, so I'm usually starving." 

Felix's eyes widened. Hyunjin said, "How's Han?" Felix said, "He's ok. He's doing good. Lee Know and him usually spend most of their time together." Hyunjin smiled a little but it disappeared as Hyunjin asked, "Did people only like me because of Lee Know? Was I just an accessory?"

Felix took Hyunjin's face in his hands again shaking his head, "No. You, Hyunjinnie, are an amazing person. You are talented, beautiful, compassionate, generous, inspiring, understanding and literally every word in the world that means something good. You are the most lovable person on Earth and anyone who can't see that doesn't have a life. And look, Minhoe isn't here and I love you. Sure, both of you together were great, but that doesn't make you less important," Felix paused looking into Hyunjin's eyes with so much adoration that Hyunjin almost blushed, "If infinity was a number, I'd do anything to give it to you. An infinity of smiles. An infinity of texts. An infinity of love."

Hyunjin smiled, taking Felix's hands in his and pulling him closer, their noses almost touching. Felix could feel Hyunjin's warm breath on his face and he shuddered. Hyunjin whispered in a husky voice, "Really?"
