After school,
Hyunjin was looking through his messages with a smile. At lunch time, him and Felix were continuously texting. Hyunjin hadn't smiled so much in a whole year as much as he did when Felix squealed at Hyunjin's messages. Loud enough for everyone to hear. Felix had blushed with embarrasment and hid under the table as Lee Know tried to control his chuckles.
"Lee Know looked happier, lighter." Hyunjin thought fondly but immediately snapped out of it going back to reading his lovely conversation with Felix. Felix was lovely. Hyunjin frowned as he saw that he's been waiting in the school garden for about twenty minutes. Felix wasn't here yet.
"It's probably our thing to be late here every time we need to meet..." Hyunjin sighed. Hyunjin tried to ignore the voices in his head that told him that Felix didn't like him. Maybe Felix was doing all of this out of pity.... or for Han. Felix and Han were best friends after all. Hyunjin shook his head. He wanted the voices to go quiet.
So he leaned back on the bench, looked up at the sky, and trusted Felix's text, "Of course I'll be there :)"
Meanwhile,
Lee Know had one arm wrapped around Felix's shoulders as they walked down the footpath. Lee Know said, "You usually stay after school. What made you come with me early today?"
Felix quickly said, "Oh I didn't have anything to do today and you looked particularly happy all day." Lee Know smiled, not knowing how Felix's mind raced with thoughts.
Felix had told Hyunjin that they'd meet after school. But Felix was scared. He was scared that what Hyunjin said that day, could be deeper than Felix showed he thought. What if Hyunjin really loved him? He'd just have to deal with best friends then, because Felix was obviously straight.
Oh and, Felix hadn't had the courage to text Hyunjin saying he wouldn't come.
Surely, Hyunjin would leave within twenty minutes or so? Felix sighed. He didn't want to text Hyunjin saying no, but he wasn't coming either. He was confused why he was acting like this. Why was he so scared of upsetting Hyunjin?
"YONGBOK-AAH!" Lee Know shouted in Felix's ear, making the younger let out a high pitched scream. Felix said, his voice deep, "What?"
Lee Know rolled his eyes and said, "I like Han, I am going to date him."
Felix froze. If your best friend and older brother are dating, who do you give the shovel talk to? He blinked seeing Lee Know still casually walking. On one hand, Han was the friend, not family, so he should get the shovel talk; but in the other, he didn't't think Han was capable of hurting Lee Know. But Lee Know himself was questionable.
"Two shovel talks it is then." He thought and caught up with Lee Know again.
Meanwhile also,
Seungmin frowned, he hadn't seen Chan since lunch. Neither was Chan picking up his calls or answering his texts. Maybe Chan just wanted space? Seungmin dragged his hand over his closed eyes. Was Bang Chan afraid of being stalked or something?
Seungmin was snapped out of his thoughts by IN (yes they were having another sleepover because Binnie and Jeongin saw how stressed Seungmin looked.)
IN said, "Don't worry Minnie, Chan might just be busy." Seungmin said, "Do you think I said something wrong? What if I did something and he doesn't want to tell me it hurt him?"
Changbin sat on the couch with a bowl full of popcorn and said, "Stop sounding like Bang Chan. I'm sure you did nothing. Come on let's eat something and get our minds busy."
IN rolled his eyes and said, "How about we binge watch a show?"
Seungmin said, "We have school tomorrow."
All of them stared at each other.
Seungmin said as all of them sat at the couch without question, "Good idea, let's watch."
Binnie grabbed the remote, "What k drama?" IN groaned, "Fine, let's watch True Beauty, it's been coming up on my feed too much."
Two hours later,
Hyunjin rubbed his arms feeling cold. He opened his eyes confused, only to see he fell asleep on the bench where him and Felix were supposed to meet. Surely, he just had a small nap.
Hyunjin shivered, his teeth clattering a little. He took out his phone to see the time and frowned. Felix was supposed to be there more than two hours ago. The sun had almost set. The atmosphere was darker and cooler. Tiny moths fluttered in the long grass.
It was beautiful. But Hyunjin couldn't see that. All ge could see was an empty space. It stretched out all around him. Or maybe the emptiness was inside.
Felix hadn't come, or left a message. Felix was supposed to fill that empty space, and make Hyunjin feel warm. But all around him was a faint mist. Nothing else. Nothing more.
Hyunjin tried to tell himself that Felix might just have gotten busy. He stayed there a little longer. Not finding the courage to get up. Still feeling like his clock was wrong, and the sun hadn't set. But that little while turned into another hour. Hyunjin felt nautious from the cold. His arms, fingers, nose and ears freezing.
He was in a trance. Unable to think what was happening. Why was he so sad? It didn't make sense.
No. It did make sense.
Hyunjin abruptly got up from his bench as he realised, his cheeks felt like they were freezing because of the unknown tears that covered them. He let out a sob. When had he started crying. Hyunjin curled into himself and walked away. His dad was going to be so mad at him for staying late.
