XXIV. Doppelgänger blood

THREE MINUTES. Tyler was running out of time to live. Suddenly he woke up, gasping for breath. "Where am I? What happened?" He asked. "Tyler" Caroline sighed, relieved. "Don't be shy about it" Rebekah said. "What's going on?" Tyler asked. "Klaus is turning you into a vampire. A hybrid. You're in transition" Caroline explained. Tyler looked around, wide eyed. "Don't give us that look, you wanted this, remember?" Raina reminded. "Don't leave out the hard part, sweets. You'll only survive if your witch is successful. If not... You're pretty much dead" Rebekah added, smiling cruelly. "You're going to be okay. Okay? It's going to be okay" The blonde vampires assured him. "Don't lie to him Caroline" Raina chided "If Bonnie doesn't succeed in the next... Two? Three minutes? You will die a painful"

"I wonder how she's doing" Rebekah mused. "Tick tock goes the gym clock" she showed them the time on her phone which indicated that only two minutes were left. Suddenly Klaus entered the room "Well, the verdict's in. The original witch says the doppelgänger should be dead" he announced. Rebekah got up, she looked quite happy at the news "Does that mean we can kill her?" Raina never understood her sister's determination to hate all the doppelgängers because of Tatia who, in truth, wasn't even that bad (Though her opinion was somewhat biased)

"No, I'm fairly certain it means the opposite" Klaus replied. "Sorry what?" Raina asked. Rebekah grabbed Caroline from behind, pulling her away from Tyler and preventing her from going near him. "Call it a hunch..." Klaus said. He showed a test tube containing blood to the three. "Elena's blood. Drink it" he ordered.

"No! No, no, no, Tyler, don't!" Caroline exclaimed, struggling against Rebekah. "Don't be daft, we all know if he doesn't feed he will die" Raina snorted. Klaus forcefed Tyler the vial of blood. The werewolf struggled against him but drank it. "There we go. Good boy" Klaus said.

Tyler coughed, rolling over the desk, and falling to the floor, screaming and groaning and writhing. He held his head and screamed. His face began to change. His eyes glew amber as dark veins sprouted under them. His teeth elongated into fangs. He lifted his head and snarled "It worked" Raina murmured.

Klaus, Rebekah and Raina stood in front of the hospital. Elena was inside, having some of her blood drained by a compelled nurse. "So the doppelgänger isn't the problem. Her blood is the solution" Rebekah murmured "Seems so" Klaus said. "How did you know?" Rebekah asked. "Ofcourse it worked like that, why wouldn't it? Mother always hated us for her mistakes. A thousand years in the grave and she is still trying to find ways to fuck with us" Raina snarled.

"It makes sense if you think about it from her perspective. It was her fail-safe in case me and Raina ever broke the hybrid curse. The doppelgänger had to die in order for us to become a hybrid, but if she was dead..." Klaus said. "Then you two couldn't use her blood to sire yourselves a new species" Rebekah finished. "Leaving us alone for all time" Klaus agreed. "We wouldn't have to be alone if you didn't keep shoving our siblings into boxes" Raina countered. "Is that what this is about, Nik? Your obsession with hybrids? You just don't want to be alone?" Rebekah asked incredulously. "What I want is to take my girl, take my hybrid the hell out of this one-pony town. You know, why don't you, uh, why don't you get the truck? Me and Raina will get Elena" Klaus said.

As Rebekah left, Damon walked up to them "Well, look who finally decided to show up to the party" Klaus remarked. "Where is she?" Damon asked. "Good as dead, no need to worry" Raina replied "Elena is making a donation to a greater cause" Klaus said. The vampire attempted to go towards the hospital but Klaus stopped him. "I'm afraid I can't let you interfere, mate"

"You'll have to kill me" Damon snapped. "Actually, I'd love to" Raina stepped forward but Klaus stopped her as well "Oh, we would love to kill you, but I made a pledge to your brother, and unlike him, I keep my word-" Raina snorted "Liar" she muttered. "-Although, you know what, thinking about it now, he probably doesn't care that much anymore" Klaus shoved Damon against the hood of a car. "Like I said, bloody fucking liar. You just wanted to have the fun of killing him yourself" Raina crossed her arms.

"Guilty" Klaus agreed. "Don't you want to know about your friend Mikael?" Damon spoke suddenly. The siblings stiffened "What do you know about Mikael?" Klaus asked. "Just that he knows you're here" Damon replied smugly. "Bluffing won't save your pathetic life" Raina said. "Katherine and I found him. Consider it our leverage" Damon said. Klaus threw him against another car but when he got up both siblings were already gone.
