Alastors POV:

I gently swiped my fingers across the worn-down, leather book cover, underneath the thick dust it revealed the words:

सर्वेषां दुष्टानां मूलम्

...the root of all evil.

It was written in Sanskrit, the oldest language spoken. I only knew how to translate it since my mother taught me, we have a very long line of ancestry.

Just as I was about to unlock the book I paused.

~flashback~

"I think you are old enough to know about our family history." My mother flipped through pages of a decrepit book. "We all practiced voodoo, it's a religion based on ancestral spirits. In this book it holds all the information and knowledge of our past. I want you to read it carefully." My mother held out the book for me to take.

As soon as I touched it, a blackened, green-tinted smoke flowed like water out of the pages. My mother looked up at me terrified and grabbed it away from me.

"What happened?" I asked and she looked disappointed and disgusted by me.

"Don't ever read this book." She replied and placed it back on the shelf.

"Why?"

"It won't show you our heritage. Your mind is tainted by what you have done."

I'm guessing that means because I've slaughtered a few people...

"When you touched this book it turned into something else, dark magic flipped and changed the words. NEVER do anything in this book, you will regret it immensely. I don't want my son to be persuaded by evil. Promise me, Alastor." She begged and sighed.

"I promise."

~time skip~

Curiosity filled my mind and I couldn't fight the urge anymore. It was late at night and I creeped to out to the kitchen, carefully sliding the book off the shelf.

As I held the it, glowing symbols surrounded me and a cold shiver crawled up my spine.

I opened it and a sharp, frigid gust of wind blew onto my face. I squinted down, trying to view the words. The house bargan to shake and the kitchen appliances began to clutter.

'konvoke rasin tout sa ki mal.' Was written in bold, neon letters. The book shattered into two and my mother suddenly burst into the kitchen, making me gasp.

"ALASTOR! WHAT DID I SAY?! " My mother snapped and snatched both the books off me, slamming them closed.

"What is the root of all evil?" I stuttered and she looked at me furiously.

She gripped my ear tightly and pulled me away into my 'bedroom' which was extremely cramped, I could barely fit on my bed. "Stop it, let me go that hurts!" She tugged on my ear and slammed the door shut behind her.

"I'm extremely disappointed in you Alastor." She poked her finger into my chest.

"qu'est-ce qui ne va pas avec mon enfant ?!" She mumbled holding her head in frustration.

"You think there is something wrong with me?" I said through trembling breaths.

"No, I did something wrong. I don't know why you turned out like this but I want MY son back." She sobbed.

Oh.

"I-I am your son..." I sniffled and held back tears through my broken smile.

"Are you? Because I thought I raised a gentle, kind, un-violent boy. Clearly I messed up somehow or I was too blind to see what you were becoming." Her cries were heart breaking and it put a lump in my throat. I couldn't breathe, I didn't know what to say.

"I will always love you but I feel grief, like I've lost someone I used to know." My mother sobbed, she looked distraught and brokenhearted.

"..." Nothing. Not a single sound came out of me. I felt sorry and I embraced her.

"I don't want you to leave me like your father did." She stuttered, barely audible as she cried into my chest.

My father...

"I'm sorry." I stammered, holding her closer.

"I will never abandon you and it's not your fault I turned out this way...don't ever blame yourself for my actions." I told her and she sighed.

My mother locked away the dark book in a chest and threw the keys inside, hoping I will never set my eyes on it again.

~flashback over~
