AU where Manolo briefly becomes a werewolf

The air was cool that evening, the sky growing darker over the town of San Angel as the sun set.

Manolo and Maria were out on a walk with their infant twin girls on the outskirts of town. It wasn’t easy to adjust to the role of parenthood and there are many things they still had to learn, but they had gotten into a routine in the past month, of course they had Joaquin to help them. They both loved Celina and Cecilia with all their hearts and would do anything to protect them.

They had been walking for a bit and were taking a break to sit in the grass.

“You know, a part of me was hoping they’d fall asleep while we were out.” Maria said, looking at the girls in their stroller. Throughout the walk, Celina and Cecilia had stayed awake, looking up at the sky and their parents, covered by a soft white blanket.

“They will by the time we get home.” Manolo said, “It would’ve been nice if it worked.”

Maria stood up and walked a few steps away, “I almost feel bad for Joaquin. I can tell he’s just as exhausted as we are.”

Manolo got up and walked next to her, “We all knew this would happen. He’s been saying he’d help us since before you showed. We should thank him again.”

“Based on how big I was, I should’ve known we were having two.”

Manolo placed a hand on her shoulder, “Oh, come on. No, you weren’t.”

“I know you’re lying, but I appreciate the effort, mi amor.” Maria smirked.

The young couple turned around to return to their daughters. What they saw made their blood run cold in horror.

...

Estrella and Chaska had been wandering the mortal realm for a few days now. Chaska would always be in her wolf form. Chaska did this to become more in touch with her powers and Estrella always accompanied her. They both always enjoyed their visits to the mortal realm. It was nice to relish in their powers every now and then.

Estrella had found himself wandering near San Angel. He saw Manolo and Maria near the outskirts of town. They were sitting on the ground next to a small tan stroller. He knew what was inside the stroller, but he still grew curious about what it was.

He had made himself invisible as he approached the stroller. He knew what he was going to see, but it was still a surprise to see what he did.

Babies.

Twins.

Estrella could smell that they were female, about a month old. They were awake, looking up at the evening sky with big hazel eyes and black fuzzy hair.

Estrella didn’t see infants very often, but when he did, they never failed to captivate him with their wonder and pureness.

Against his better judgment, he made himself visible before the young girls. The moment they saw him, their eyes lit up in wonder as they stared at the large gray creature that appeared out of nowhere.

Estrella gingerly nudged one of their faces with his nose, eliciting laughter from the small girl as she lifted a tiny hand to his face. He did the same to the other girl and earned the same reaction. Soon, he was nudging both young girls’ faces as they laughed and touched his face.

“No!”

Estrella lifted his head, his eyes were met with Manolo and Maria’s large frantic eyes. Manolo had a sword drawn and held in front of him at arm’s length.
