Maya, Rico, Chimi, and Picchu take a lake day on their way to the divine gate.
On their way to the divine gate, Maya, Rico, Picchu, Chimi, and Chiapa decided to stop by a lake. After a while of resting in the shade, Maya decided to go for a swim.
“When was the last time a god attacked us?” Chimi asked.
“You're not actually serious.” Rico said.
“It's true. I'm almost starting to get worried.”
“Picchu just want to enjoy sun.” Picchu said, stretching his arms out, “Maybe join princess in water.”
Maya was floating in the water, staring up at the sky. A lot was running through her mind. They're officially on their way to the divine gate. And into the Underworld. Face to face with Mictlan. The closer they got, the more it felt real. She was also going to meet her birth mother. That'll be… an experience. She hoped she'd run into Zatz again. She wasn't going to join him, but… maybe he could join her. He's not part of the prophecy, but having him would be a big help. Plus, she wanted to try and-
Maya was startled by a large splash. She began to tread the water and saw Rico swimming next to her, “Oh, s-sorry about that, Maya.” He said. Maya scoffed and playfully splashed Rico, “Oh, so that's how you want to do this?”
Rico and Maya splashed each other back and forth for a little bit. Chimi stuck her head out from the water, spitting water out of her mouth, “Ah, this is nice.” She said.
“I didn't know you could swim.” Maya said.
“Self-taught. I don't get to do it as much as I'd like, though.”
“Yeah, it's been a long time since I swam, too. Feels pretty good.”
“Make way for Picchu!” Everyone looked up to see Picchu running full-speed towards the lake. The three of them freaked out, frantically swimming in different directions. Picchu jumped into the water, creating a large splash and raising large waves that pushed everyone else.
Maya rubbed the water out of her eyes and saw Chiapa laughing at them from the shore.
“Should see terror on faces.” Picchu laughed.
“Hilarious, big guy.” Rico said.
Maya sighed and went back to floating, “Ay, we needed this.”
“Water much better than mountain mist.” Picchu said.
“And the cold rain.” Rico said, “Gaaah!” Rico yelped as he was lifted into the air. He found himself on Chiapa’s back, who had gotten into the lake when no one noticed. He gave Rico a smug look, “Oh, you think you're so funny, don't you?”
Chiapa tilted his body, causing Rico to fall off the large cat's back into the water, “Aaahh!” Everyone laughed at Rico's expense as he grumbled in annoyance.
They spent the next few hours in the lake and drying off in the sun. It was what they needed to distract their minds from the horrors ahead.
