Werewolf AU finale

Things were a little easier for Manolo once he was in control.

At first, Manolo didn’t understand what Chaska meant when she said there was a chance he’d go mad. But after a few days of not transforming, he understood. He started hearing noises, growling, snarling, as though a demonic force within him was trying to take over his body. When he asked Maria and Joaquin if they heard anything, they heard nothing. He also thought he saw himself as a wolf in the mirror.

If this was happening after a few days, Manolo didn’t want to imagine how bad it would get if he kept waiting. He found it best to transform once every few days. He would transform for a few hours at a time, Maria, Joaquin, Chuy, and the girls by his side to make the experience easier. He always changed during the night when he was sure no one else could see him and almost never left the house.

He still wasn’t getting enough sleep.

When Chaska saw that Manolo was in control of his werewolf, she was relieved. Many people who’re bitten never figure out how to control it.

One day, Manolo and Maria were in the market. Luckily, no one in town noticed there was anything wrong with Manolo, other than his lack of sleep, and the three amigos did their best acting as though nothing was going on.

“Ow.”

Maria and Manolo turned around to see a woman trip and fall to the ground. Maria went over to help her up, “Hey, are you alright?”

The woman looked up. She looked a few years older than Maria, with dark circles under her green eyes, as though she hasn’t slept in years. She wore a simple tan dress that was torn at the left sleeve, her dark amber hair hung loosely around her face.

“Yes.” The woman said with a blank expression, “Thank you.” Her voice sounded distant, as though her mind were somewhere else.

“Are you from around here?” Manolo asked.

“No. I’m visiting my brother. You might not know him.”

“What’s your name?” Maria asked.

“Esme.”

“I’m Maria, and this is my husband, Manolo.” Manolo waved at Esme, who’s expression hadn't changed.

“Nice to meet you both. I have to go.” She turned away to leave.

“Oh, uh, bye!” Manolo called out.

“Was she… ok?” Maria asked.

“I don’t know. I hope she is.”

...

That night was a full moon, well past midnight. The town was usually quiet during this time. But tonight was an exception.

Joaquin was woken up by frantic pounding on the front door, quickly getting up to answer. When he opened the door, he saw a man who looked like he just saw a ghost.

“Thank goodness.” He said, “Joaquin, we need help. There’s - there’s a wolf. A-a large wolf in town.”

“What? Is anyone hurt?” Joaquin asked.

“No, but it might. This thing is larger than a normal wolf. We’re not trying to hurt it, but it’s very aggressive.”

Joaquin knew the wolf the man was talking about wasn’t Manolo since he was in the house.

Was there another werewolf in town?

Joaquin followed the man to the town square. In the town square, there was a large dark amber humanoid wolf, its eyes were wide and frantic. There were a number of people who tried to approach the large wolf, but cowered away when it snarled loudly back at them, snapping its jaws.
