Blessings For Two

Celina and Cecilia receive a blessing from a goddess in disguise.

Manolo, Maria and Joaquin were going home after a walk with the twins, who had just turned one. 

Cecilia, who was being carried by Joaquin, started to poke and hit his face.

"Hey, hey, hey, I'm not a toy." Joaquin chuckled, moving her hands away.

Maria smiled and ruffled her younger daughter's hair, "We can play later, mija. We're almost home."

"Oh, what sweet girls." The three amigos saw an older woman fawning over the twins, "May I ask how old they are?"

"They turned one a few days ago." Manolo said, adjusting his hold on Celina.

"They grow up fast, don't they?" The old woman asked.

"That's what they always say, but it's true." Maria smiled.

Celina and Cecilia started laughing. They reached out to the woman, who gently grasped their hands with a smile, "I can already tell they're such bright young girls."

"You're right, they are." Joaquin said, "Just the other day, I was looking for my sword, and I saw them about to grab it for me…" Joaquin saw the death glares Manolo and Maria gave him, "But I got to it before they could." He was glad to be holding Cecilia or else his best friends would've killed him by now.

"If I may, I'd like to give these girls a blessing." The woman said, "May you both always be kind and courageous, and to write your own stories."

"Thank you, señora." Manolo said. 

"It's my pleasure." The woman said. She turned her attention to the twins, "You two stay out of trouble." The girls cooed and smiled, waving their hands to say goodbye. 

Maria smiled warmly, "Have a good day, señora."

"And to you as well." The woman said before leaving.

"Alright, wasn't that a nice interaction?" Joaquin asked, "It was nice of her to bless the girls, not that they…" Manolo and Maria side-eyed him as they kept walking, "I'll… just stop talking."

They didn't see the marigold petals the woman left behind.
