No Need To Be Envious

Maya becomes acquainted with one of the gods and Zatz feels uneasy with how it looks.

It's been about a month since Zatz and Maya became gods. They were still learning about their new responsibilities and powers, along with meeting some new gods. Some gods they get along with, and other gods they don't.

While Zatz was raising the moon, Maya spent the evening with La Muerte, wanting to bond with her aunt.

As she was leaving La Muerte's castle, she heard, "You must be Maya."

Maya turned around and saw a god walking toward her. He was tall, slender, wore soft white clothes with silver jewelry, had white, red, and black face paint, and had long black hair.

"Yes, I am." Maya said, bowing her head, "And who are you?"

"I am Xochipilli, god of love, but please call me Pilli. I'm sure you've met my sister, Xochi."

"I've heard of her, but I haven't had the pleasure of meeting her yet."

"Well then, I have something to brag about when I get home. Fitting that you're the goddess of the sun, though even the sun itself doesn't hold a candle to your beauty."

Pilli kissed Maya's hand, the comment making her feel both flattered and uncomfortable.

"Uh, that's... very sweet of you, but I have a boyfriend."

"Oh, I know. He is a handsome young man, isn't he? Even I have yet to find a man with half his charm."

Maya was relieved that he wasn't flirting with her, but she had to run the statement in her mind again before it clicked: Pilli was attracted to men.

"O-Ohhh, ok, I understand." Maya said, with a chuckle, "I'm sorry."

"Don't worry, I get that a lot. I guess I can be a little too polite with the opposite sex."

"A little bit, yeah. So, what brings you here?"

"I was just passing by on my way home. I noticed you here, and I thought I'd introduce myself. What about you?"

"I was spending time with my aunt, and I'm about to head home, too."

"Oh, yeah, I forgot you're related to La Muerte. Mind if I join you?"

"Wouldn't that delay you going home?" Maya asked.

"Eh, I'm not in a hurry."

"Sure. I don't see a problem with that."

...

Zatz had finished raising the moon and was heading back to the home he and Maya shared in a swarm of bats.

Just as their home was coming into view, he saw Maya walking to the front door. She must've been coming back from her time spent with La Muerte. He'll have to ask her about how it went.

As Zatz got closer, something else caught his eye. Someone else was with Maya.

A man, and an attractive one, at that. Zatz didn't know who this god was, but he seemed to be getting along well with Maya, both of them laughing and their smiles broad.

Zatz felt a little uneasy at the sight. What was going on?

Before jumping to conclusions, Zatz quickly hid on the roof of the temple, returning to his god form. He watched them from the roof while listening to their conversation with his bat hearing.

"So, then I said, 'Listen, pal, I don't know who you think you're talking to, but I'm not handing out matches to some low-rate dingus.'"

Maya laughed outright, "Wow. So, you just left him without a match?"
