"There's nothing to talk about," Haewon spoke curtly, her tone sharp and dismissive. Without another glance at him, she stormed straight back into her room shutting the door. She leaned against the closed door, her chest heaving with pent-up frustration. With a heavy sigh, she slid down to the floor, her hands clenched into tight fists at her sides.
"I hate him," she whispered bitterly to herself, her voice laced with self-deception. "I hate him for making me feel like this."
But even as the words left her lips, Haewon knew deep down that they were a lie. She didn't hate Sunghoon; in fact, she couldn't deny the growing attraction she felt towards him. It was that very attraction that terrified her, that threatened to unravel the carefully constructed walls around her heart.
"Why am I acting like this?" she murmured to herself, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why am I pushing him away when all I want is to be close to him?"
The silence of her room offered no answers, only amplifying the turmoil raging within her. Haewon hugged her knees to her chest, seeking solace in the familiar embrace of her own arms.
"He doesn't deserve this," she admitted quietly, her voice tinged with regret. "He's been nothing but kind to me, and yet I treat him with cold indifference."
The weight of her own words hung heavy in the air. Haewon closed her eyes, willing herself to confront the truth she had been avoiding for so long.
"I'm scared," she confessed, the words catching in her throat. "I'm scared of what he makes me feel, of the vulnerability that comes with letting someone in."
Closing her eyes, Haewon let out another frustrated sigh, running a hand through her hair in exasperation. She was so tired of fighting against her own feelings, of denying herself the chance for happiness. But the truth was she was scared of the outcome. Every time she had been happy it was always followed by pain afterwards.
She pulled her phone out, fingers trembling as she dialed Minji's number, the weight of her uncertainty heavy in her chest. Each ring felt like an eternity until finally, Minji's warm voice came through the line.
"Hey, Haewon, what's up?" Minji's tone was filled with genuine concern.
"Minji, I... I need to talk," Haewon began, her voice shaky with emotion.
"Of course, Haewon. What's on your mind?" Minji's voice was gentle, encouraging Haewon to open up.
"I don't know what to do," Haewon confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I've been acting so distant with Sunghoon, and I can't seem to stop myself. It's like... like I'm afraid of what I feel."
