Sunghoon's eyes bore into hers, pleading yet determined. "Haewon, please," he said, his voice softer but no less intense. "I need to know what's going on. Why are you pushing me away?"
Haewon's frustration reached its peak, her facade crumbled, and the words spilled out in a torrent of emotion.
"I'm mad, okay? I'm mad!" Her voice echoed off the walls of the cabin, her tone raw with pent-up frustration. "I'm falling for you, and it's frustrating me because it wasn't supposed to happen! And now it's going to, and neither I nor you can stop it!"
Sunghoon's eyes widened in shock, his breath catching in his throat as her confession hung in the air between them like a heavy fog. The weight of her words settled over him, sinking deep into his soul as he grappled with the realization of what she was saying.
Haewon's voice trembled with emotion as she continued, her words laced with a mixture of anger and desperation. "I hate you. I hate you because you're all that's been on my mind, consuming every thought, every feeling. I hate you for making me feel this way, for making me vulnerable, for making me want something I shouldn't." She snatched her arm away from his grip, and stormed into her room.
Sunghoon stood there, his gaze fixed on the spot where Haewon had stood just moments ago, her words echoing in his mind like a relentless echo. "Haewon," he called out softly, his voice barely above a whisper, "wait."
But she was already gone, disappearing into the depths of her room, leaving him standing there alone with his thoughts. Sunghoon's mind raced as he tried to make sense of what had just transpired, the weight of Haewon's confession hanging heavy in the air.
And then it hit him, a sudden realization that sent a shiver down his spine. "This happened since the night she drank my blood, didn't it?" he murmured to himself, the pieces of the puzzle finally falling into place. "The reason why scarletts don't drink each other's blood... The reason why she was hesitant to let me drink hers or drink mine."
The revelation hit him like a bolt of lightning, illuminating the truth with blinding clarity. He had heard the stories, the warnings whispered in hushed tones, but he had never imagined that he would become entangled in such a forbidden bond. And yet, here they were, caught in the throes of a love that defied all reason and logic.
Sunghoon's relief was tinged with guilt. He couldn't shake the weight of his own actions—the insistence that Haewon drink his blood to regain her strength, the subtle encouragement that had unknowingly deepened the bond between them.
As he replayed the events in his mind, he realized with a sinking feeling that the attraction he had been feeling toward Haewon had begun long before she had confessed her feelings. It had started the moment he had tasted her blood that day on Mount Onju.
