Haewon and Sunghoon moved swiftly, their footsteps silent as they trailed the surviving voids through the dense forest. The air grew colder and more oppressive with each step, the darkness deepening around them. The trees became gnarled and twisted, their branches reaching out like skeletal fingers, casting eerie shadows on the forest floor.
Haewon's phone was on silent in her pocket, unnoticed as it vibrated with incoming calls. She and Sunghoon were too focused on their mission to notice. The phone's screen lit up repeatedly, displaying Minji's name, but remained unanswered.
In her apartment, Minji paced anxiously, her phone pressed to her ear. "Come on, Haewon, pick up!" she muttered, frustration clear in her voice. She glanced over at Sunoo, who was equally worried.
Sunoo's brows were furrowed with concern. "Should I go to their cabin and check?" he asked.
Minji shook her head, her expression troubled. "If they're not picking up, they've probably already left. But they can't, they shouldn't. I don't understand how Haewon could have missed something this important in the blood altar." She gazed down at the ancient book lying open in front of her, the pages filled with warnings about facing Bloodmae.
Meanwhile, Sunghoon and Haewon continued their stealthy pursuit. They could sense the oppressive energy of Bloodmae's magic growing stronger, a sickening presence that made their stomachs churn. They exchanged a determined glance, knowing they had to press on. She exchanged a glance with Sunghoon, who nodded in silent understanding. They both felt it, but their combined strength made it more bearable.
"Stay close," Haewon whispered, her voice barely audible.
Sunghoon nodded, his eyes scanning their surroundings. "I'm right here."
They continued to follow the voids, moving from the relative safety of their familiar forest into a new one that was even darker and more foreboding. The atmosphere was stifling, the sense of dread growing with each step they took.
The voids, unaware of their pursuers, moved with a sense of urgency, eager to relay the false information to their master. Haewon and Sunghoon stayed hidden in the shadows, their eyes fixed on the dark figures ahead.
Eventually, the trees began to thin, and an enormous, ancient structure loomed in the distance. The castle was a towering edifice of crumbling stone and darkened turrets, exuding an aura of decay and evil. Its windows were like empty eyes, staring out into the night with a lifeless gaze.
Haewon whispered, her voice barely audible, "So this is where Bloodmae has been hiding all along."
Sunghoon nodded, his eyes narrowed as he surveyed the ominous structure. "Looks like it. We need to be careful. This place is radiating dark magic."
