The forest was cloaked in darkness, the full moon hidden behind a thick layer of clouds. Five figures, hooded and cloaked in black, moved silently through the underbrush. They were a whisper in the night, a shadow passing through the dense woods, drawing closer to Jinwoo's lair.
Haewon led the group, her senses on high alert. Sunghoon was right behind her, followed by Heeseung, Jaeyun, and Sunoo. The only sounds were the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant hoot of an owl. They communicated through comms in their ears, ensuring they remained silent and undetected.
As they neared the lair, the trees thinned out, revealing the towering walls of the ancient castle. It loomed over them, dark and foreboding. The castle's height and the ominous presence it exuded drew quiet gasps of awe from Heeseung and Jaeyun, who had never seen it before.
"Wow," Heeseung breathed, his voice a whisper in the comms. "This place is massive."
Jaeyun nodded, his eyes wide. "And creepy."
Haewon's chuckle broke the tension. "Leave the admiration for later."
"You mean when this place is blown up?" Sunoo quipped.
"Hey, that's plan B, okay?" Sunghoon's voice was firm but tinged with amusement.
Haewon glanced at her wristwatch. The time read 10:50 PM. It had taken them around fifty minutes to reach the lair, using their abilities sparingly to avoid detection. They had three hours and ten minutes before the moon set and the sun began to rise, three hours to complete their mission while Bloodmae was vulnerable.
"Alright, Heeseung, Jaeyun, time to shine," Haewon whispered through the comms.
"We need a way to communicate without giving ourselves away," Jaeyun had said, his brow furrowed in thought as the five of them were gathered around the table in the gym.
Sunoo had nodded. "Comms. We can use earpieces to stay in touch. Also, we need to manage our time precisely. The first night of the full moon is from 10 PM to 2 AM. We have a four-hour window to get in, do what we need to do, and get out."
Haewon had agreed. "Watches too, then. We need to synchronize and keep track of time."
Haewon's voice spoke through the comms again, "Heeseung, Jaeyun, you know what to do."
The two nodded, their expressions serious. They removed their hoods, revealing determined faces, and activated their heartbeats. The sudden thrum of life would draw the attention of the Voids, just as planned.
Heeseung glanced at Jaeyun. "Ready?"
Jaeyun grinned. "Born ready."
They stepped forward, making their presence known. Almost immediately, the Voids patrolling outside the lair's walls turned their attention to them, drawn by the sudden surge of life.
