Haewon's shock was palpable as she processed Sunghoon's revelation. Scarletts? Sunghoon had transformed more scarletts, and not just anyone, but his own closest friends. What was he thinking? She couldn't help but feel a pang of betrayal mixed with confusion as she struggled to comprehend the magnitude of his decision.
"Why did you turn them into scarletts?" Haewon's voice was tinged with incredulity as she searched Sunghoon's eyes for answers. His explanation would determine her next course of action, her trust in him hanging in the balance.
Sunghoon met her gaze, his expression earnest yet resolute. "Five are better than two," he replied simply, his tone unwavering despite the weight of their conversation. "And it was around the time we faced Jinwoo when a few days before, Heeseung and Jaeyun found me."
As Sunghoon's words echoed in her mind, a flashback swept through her consciousness, transporting her back to the moment when Sunghoon had ventured behind the cabin, a sense of unease gripping his senses. Jaeyun's presence had startled him, their encounter fraught with tension as they confronted each other in the shadows.
"Heeseung and I, we've been looking for you," Jaeyun's voice had been tinged with urgency, his eyes reflecting a mix of concern and determination. Sunghoon had urged him to leave, promising to meet them later when he was alone. It was a brief yet pivotal moment, one that now held greater significance in light of Sunghoon's revelation.
Haewon's mind raced with conflicting emotions as she absorbed the implications of Sunghoon's actions. She knew she needed time to process everything, to understand the full extent of his decisions and their implications for their future. But time was what they didn't have.
Haewon crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing as she regarded Sunghoon. "There was a reason we had to stay hidden, Sunghoon," she began, her voice tight with frustration. "Bloodmae wants to consume us, not kill us. You don't get it-we are the bait, and what he wants is our power. Making more of us only gives him more to feed on."
Sunghoon held her gaze, his expression determined. "But the five of us-we have a strategy, and he doesn't. We've planned, Haewon." He reached out, holding her arm reassuringly. "I know you well enough to understand that you waited these two months to make Bloodmae think you're scared, to raise his ego, to make him underestimate you. It's about time we properly show him what we couldn't before."
Haewon's expression softened slightly as she looked at Sunghoon. His conviction and confidence were infectious, and for a moment, she felt a glimmer of hope amidst the swirling uncertainty. Sunghoon's eyes bore into hers, his voice dropping to a soft, earnest tone. "Do you trust me, Hae?"
She nodded lightly, the tension in her shoulders easing just a fraction. "I do. But how could you even train them in just two months? For you, it took me more than six."
