76 - Mash Burnedead, Kat Ride and the Brawny Balloon (3)

[THIRD PERSON POV]

"She...she has wings?!"

The shouting from the crowd and the announcer echo through the arena, the words reaching the ears of the other contestants which causes the four who knew to smile at those words, Max eyeing the black haired first-year carefully as he mutters out a single name, "Kat..."

'The other Lackmagic Rayne mentioned...' The words drift into the third-years mind as the commotion continues, Orter scoffing at the display on the mirrors while Abyss mutters absentmindedly, "She looks...like an angel." Her strawberry blonde hair was flowing gently down her shoulders, cascading in waves as she gently uses her wings to stay aloft, the smile on her face, however, was anything but angelic and Wirth and Abel could only cast the Second Fang a glance before agreeing hesitantly.

"Except for that smile." Is muttered in return from Abel, the other Magia Lupus members hearing this conversation only nodding forcefully in agreement. Meanwhile, Kat continues to grin as the three Deadervants come rushing forward, the girl within the reach of their axes until she drops the balloon, the object making its noise all the way down as she shoots upward quickly.

The speed was unlike anything she had ever been able to do before, her wings beating smoothly as he continues to keep her eyes trained on the balloon, her head beginning to ache as she focuses on helping speed up the object just as the three Deadervants swing their axes in unison. "If we can only destroy the balloons with magic...and these things are created with magic...then why not use them to get me that key."

She laughs loudly at the sight of the balloon getting shredded, the squirrel she had slipped inside managing to scurry away quickly before the three monsters could lay their claim on the small animal. The three Deadervants then standing confused as the balloon pops around them, the girl slipping her wings back in tightly and allowing herself to fall right in the middle of the three creatures, landing steadily crouched in their triangle, and smoothly catching the key before she offers a quick kick to the one forming the point.

Her foot lands directly on its chest right as it roars, the creature going flying directly towards another contestant that was heading towards a balloon, the individual deciding to try and use her own distraction to get a key for themselves. She smirks at the curse the other teen shouts, the Deadervant having noticed that examinee and deciding to attack them instead.

She swiftly rolls out of the way, doing a back hand spring to go onto her feet, before she jumps up into the air and unfurls her wings once more, the force being used sending the other two staggering and stumbling with the large axes in their hands, before she shoots upwards speedily, her hands shooting outward and spreading at that same moment, and sending the other two Deadervants flying opposite directions and away from her.

Her wings continue to beat steadily once more, the girl high enough to avoid the Deadervants below and soon watching as the three continue to chase other examinees, her smile returning to one more pleasant. The crowd screeching at that moment, their tones filled with disbelief as Kat swiftly turns and flies in the direction of the exit,

"She...she just beat up all three of the Deadervants!"
"How is she doing that?!"
"Why are they so scary?!"

Lemon cheers happily in her spot, face flushed as she stares at the mirror with hearts in her eyes and a wide smile stretched across her face, Gazzy practically bouncing in his seat beside the Headmaster, his voice coming out laced with awe, "She can fly fast too?! How did she get to the key so quickly in the first place?!" He was excited with his questions, his inquiries going unanswered as the older man offers him a gentle smile.
