Izzy awoke to the poking and prodding of Dr Fletcher on her body. She wasn't sure what time it was, but he greeted her warmly with a timid smile.
"I'm glad to see you are awake.." he said politely.
She rubbed her sleepy eyes then sat up straight in bed. Not sure what to say or react, but she heard from the nurse that Dr Fletcher was the one who found her, so she felt a bit embarrassed.
"Uh mm.. yeah. Thank you for saving me.." she said meekly.
"It's my job and I am glad I was there when it happened"
He had a warm and comforting tone that made her feel a bit less shy and more comfortable.
"Still.. I am grateful for what you have done," she tried to smile, but realized she probably looked haggard by now.
"No need to be this courteous with me Miss Izzy. How are you feeling now?"
" A bit better thank you.."
Izzy's throat felt a bit dry and as she tried to reach out for some water, Dr Fletcher picked it up for her and tried to help her drink it.
"It's okay.. I can manage on my own"
" You need to take it easy, doctors orders" he smiled brightly.
Sipping slowly on her water, Dr Fletcher started speaking to her casually to find out more about her health condition.
"Hmm, I see. So technically your body is just on edge and exhausted by everything? You're running around with an empty tank of gas and that's also why anything could have caused you to pass out at any given time"
Izzy listened to his explanation and thought about the last thing she heard before she passed out. Feeling too embarrassed to mention her relationship issue, she just kept pushing it on to her family responsibilities she had lately.
" With some rest , a balanced lifestyle you can still help your family and help yourself. I'll discharge you today or tomorrow if I am happy with your condition. Do you have a partner or family member that can pick you up?"
"I only have my sister , who will probably visit later"
"That's good! I would feel bad to discharge you and there's no one to pick you up. Do you live with your sister?"
"At the moment , yes. My siblings and myself all live abroad at the moment in different countries. We just came back to help our mom with our dad's care"
"Oh wow.. what good kids! Do you usually live on your own? Which city do you live in?"
Izzy didn't feel comfortable sharing about Burak , as she still was not clear what was going on. So she decided to answer generically instead of talk specifics.
" I live in Turkiye, but about to move to another city after I return. I am alone most of the time, my roommate works alot and is rarely home"
She thought that couldn't technically be considered lying as Burak was like a roommate and he often worked late, so she was most of the time alone.
" I love Turkiye! I was there last Winter to volunteer at a medical camp. Such a beautiful place and the people were so welcoming too"
"Yes, I agree"
"When will you be returning?"
"I'll wait for my dad's surgery date confirmation and then make arrangements around that"
"Understood! Well I wish you all of the best then"
"Thank you doctor! I still don't know how to repay my gratitude..." she lagged off.
"Hmm.. if you feel so bad about it, then... let's go to a Turkish restaurant after you're discharged"
Dr Fletcher's suggestion caught Izzy off guard, as she was expecting he would say a cup of coffee or something simple. Feeling obligated to agree as she was the one who brought it up.
"Hmm.. sure! If that is what it takes then we can do that" she smiled dryly.
He took our his card and gave it to her, so that she could contact him after she was released. Before they could talk any further the nurse came in the room and asked the doctor's assistance with another patient.
"Miss Izzy, I am needed elsewhere. Thank you for the chat and rest well"
"No worries doctor, thank you for the time"
Izzy stared at Dr Fletcher's card with furrowed brows, trying to figure out why he suggested a meal together. They barely knew each other and although she felt grateful towards him, this felt a bit much. Daisy arrived and looked at her confused, staring at the card so seriously.
"What are you staring at so seriously? " she teased.
Izzy told her about Dr Fletcher's suggestion about a meal together and showed her his contact information on the card.
" It doesn't sound that absurd though Izzy. Think about; you mentioned living in Turkiye, he volunteered there and probably liked the cuisine too. He saved you and you were feeling guilty about it so he just put two and two together and suggested it" Daisy explained.
"Now that you phrase it like that I do kind of get where his coming from, but still a bit weird to me..."
" Not like he asked you out on a date or something, that would have felt weird. He knows you're in a relationship right?"
"Hmm... not really..."
"Not really?," Daisy laughed at her sister's reply.
"I..I just didn't want to give out too much personal information and...things are a bit uncertain right now.." she lagged off.
Daisy looked confused and finished packing out the food she brought, then took a seat by Izzy's bedside.
"Spill Iz.."
"Its...not.."
"Izzy! Tell me the truth.."
Izzy took a deep breath and then cautiously told her sister what happened before she passed out. She tried to decipher what her sister's reaction was, but it was unreadable.
"Say something.." Izzy told Daisy.
" I don't know what to say actually.. I don't know what or who to believe.." she admitted.
"Now imagine how I feel! I don't know how to face Burak or even to try and call back.."
Daisy remembered what Burak told her about having a dinner date and also the different number he called her from. She wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but she also didn't want to help him fool her sister. Feeling torn at which side she should be on, she tried to diffuse Izzy's mind a little bit.
" Until you know the truth, let's not just believe any "Sally" that pops up into the picture," she said trying to ease Izzy's mind.
"Hmm, I'll try.." Izzy said unsure.
As Daisy left to fill out Izzy's discharge papers as requested by the nurse, she felt really confused. The whole thing with Burak was bothersome to her as she felt like she could really rely on him.
"Does Izzy and Burak's world's really not match?... I feel like there's way more to his than what I thought knew of already" she muttered to herself.
