三十三

(Name) ran down the dark paths of the mountains with lightning speed, her hand on the hilt of her stolen katana. She had been assigned to a mission late at night so she left swiftly, leaving the three Upper Moons sleeping soundly in their small forms.

A night stand where a salesman was lazily counting his cards but his whole booth was instantly whipped away into the wind the moment (Name) ran by.

She ignored his outbursts and continued on her way, before finally stopping by a shrine. Taking a glance at it, (Name) made her way up and her silhouette slowly disappeared into the darkness of the abandoned shrine.

Oyakata-sama had informed her that the demon residing here had the ability to warp time and split his body. Many demon slayers had been sent into another dimension with no way back while others were instantly killed by the forms. 

It was a S-ranked mission so he specifically decided to assign (Name) to it, knowing that she could instantly take it down.

A rustle caught her attention and (Name) narrowed her eyes, as she finally spotted the vengeful demon hiding in the shadows. She grimaced from how bad it smelled as its large slimy tongue came out and its horns started to shine. 

“You’re the one that I have to kill?” (Name) raised an eyebrow, “damn, you smell.”

The demon didn’t respond but instead gurgled disgustingly. (Name) dismissed it and she prepared herself for the strike. Her feet moved and she drew out her katana, aiming the tilt of it towards the neck of the demon.

Before her blade could even touch the demon, (Name)’s eyes widened when a glow started to appear in front of her eyes and she could feel herself being sent upwards. She looked up and she gasped when a wormhole appeared and in an instant, she was sucked into the hole.

A rush of energy and wind made itself onto her figure as (Name) closed her eyes and braced herself for what was coming next. After what seemed like a million years, (Name) could feel the wind again and she opened her eyes. She flipped and landed on the ground swiftly, her eyes narrowing when she spotted the sun shining on her instead of the moon.

“Where am I?” she muttered to herself, looking around, “did that fucking demon sent me into another time?”

She rubbed her bottom with annoyance and looked around the village she was dropped in. It was small and worn out, as citizens continued their daily jobs minus some who glanced at her curiously, probably because of the uniform she was wearing.

(Name) grumbled and stomped down the village, trying to figure out where she was. Even if she wasn’t familiar with this place, (Name) knew instantly that this village was a slum. It was overcrowded, filthy, and filled with tons of poor people who couldn’t pay their debts.

A bump to her back made (Name) freeze and she robotically turned around with the most deadliest look ever. Before her, were two young children, covered with filth and mud. Upon seeing her terrifying look, they shrieked and bowed with apology.

“What the…?” (Name) thought, bending down to inspect them.

“Hey, I’m not going to hurt you.” She responded, “Do you need help?”

The girl hid behind the boy, who shuffled his feet nervously. He gulped and raised out his two hands in a begging way, before muttering a pitiful “please”.

(Name) stared at them with emotionless eyes, making the children sweat and start to tear up. Her hand slowly reached for her katana, causing them to burst out sobbing, but they stopped when her hand passed the weapon and took out a few change from her pocket.

“Spend it wisely.” she told them, patting their heads.

Their eyes lit up and they nodded, before dashing off into the crowd. (Name) sighed softly, until her ears caught the sound of what seemed like someone being beaten. She made her way towards the destination and she peeked to see what was going on.
