"Back entrance?"
"Yeah," You nodded and then smirked, "Thought you'd be used to that with Bucky."
He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion as you walked ahead, leading the way, and then when it clicked, he scrunched his face, shouting after you,
"Oh, gross!"
You started laughing after slipping the security guard a fifty and then walking swiftly through the kitchen with Steve's hand in yours. Some nodded to you in either remembrance or understanding of why you were back here, and you popped a piece of sushi into your mouth on your way. You walked backwards out the swinging doors and the party erupted behind you as Steve followed like a lost puppy. You spun back around to face the scene, not at all disappointed in the white and gold theme, the tables perfectly set and the dance floor alive and well.
You immediately spotted some familiar faces that caught your eye, but before they approached, you threw your jackets and bag on a table that had your name with a plus one next to it before dragging your date to the middle of the room.
"But can the captain dance?" You mused with a teasing grin and he laughed, taking the lead.
He started slow dancing, holding you close against him, and your eyes never left each other's' until he spun you out, only to pull you back in with a dip. He looked like he was going to lean down and kiss you, but instead assumed the previous position as before.
"Tease." You scolded with a smile and he smirked before twirling you, drawing some eyes, but you didn't notice.
He spun you around some more and then caught you, dipping you again, but this time going in for the kiss before the room filled with applause. You laughed when he pulled back only slightly to peer into your eyes and you cupped his cheek, diving right back into his.
"So, what's the verdict?" He muttered under his breath, waving a thanks to everyone and dismissing them as you both stood straight, "Can I dance?"
"I'd say so." You chuckled, smoothing your dress down and tugging at the hem.
There were a few more dances in you both and after that you went to head back to the table, planning on having whatever they chose to serve that night. Just as the song ended, someone caught his eye, and he was practically gaping.
"Is that Michelle Obama?" He barely choked out, his posture immediately changing to one of a soldier.
You followed his eyeline and smiled when you noticed it was so clearly the Obamas, including their daughters, and then back to the nervous man next to you.
"Why don't you go say hi?"
"Come with me."
He finally ripped his eyes away to glance back at you, but you were shaking your head,
"I think they'd rather meet Captain America than a known criminal," You smiled, "I'll get us some drinks."
He didn't have to be told twice, knowing he'd lose his nerve if he hesitated much longer, and kissed your cheek in thanks before trying not to bolt towards them. You laughed to yourself as you watched him take a deep breath only about ten feet away before offering his hand to the former President and first lady.
You looked away to find your table and then someone tapped your shoulder, so you turned to face them.
"Happy you could make it this year, darling."
"Sam," You cleared your throat, knowing this was inevitable, but still caught off guard, "Nice to see you."
"Bring your boyfriend?" She peered around, "Where is Mr. Rogers?" She asked before making an 'ah' face when she spotted him, then glared back at you, "We know all about your little change of life."
