Nigel had not been acting like himself. Richard had noticed this at the restaurant even as he had been finalizing some details with the real estate agent with the cold eyes and jittery hands that chugged too much coffee. Especially when that man came in. First he had thought he was competition looking to lease the space but the man had so enthusiastically thrown his arms around Nigel to Richard's displeasure and called him his " very best mate from London". Second Nigel was not acting like they were very best mates. Third Richard didn't trust the man as far as he could toss him. The man, Lonnie he said he was called, kept looking at him and Nigel and smiling like he had just hit a jackpot. And with the strangely possessive way he kept glancing at Richard's expensive watch and clothes it made him very nervous as well.

Luckily Lonnie had sauntered off with a rather sleazy wink at Nigel and a " See you later, old friend" while the real estate agent had assured them she would run their offer past her clients then get back to them with an answer.

When they were back in Richard's Mercedes Benz heading back home he asked Nigel if everything was alright.

Nigel was too quiet and absently played with his hair. Then his eye examined Richard's face like he was trying to memorize it before he lost it for good. " I'm..... I'm ok. I just.... I'm tired. Did you ever feel like you were about to lose the most important thing in your life and you can't do anything about it? " His voice sounded so sad that Richard reached over with his free hand and stroked his leg gently.

Richard didn't answer though. He understood what he meant though. Because that was how he had felt the day he had read Nigel's resignation letter. What he did say was," What do you want for dinner tonight? "

Nigel smiled at him and oddly enough he could see tears glimmering within that one perfect beautiful purple eye that shone at him. " Anything. As long as it's with you. "
