Celeste sat on the couch as Sanai rested between her legs, as she braided her hair. They had been doing this for nearly an hour, luckily she was half way done. Sanai wanted knotless braids, so she did just that and made sure she brought beads to put on the ends.

Sanai was in the process of completing her homework, which Celeste aided with. Once Sanai got to high school her mother wouldn't be as much help, so Celeste always helped her when she could now.

Celeste read the question from the homework paper, "What's your favorite food?" Sanai knew the answer to the question in an instant, "Fries." She said, as her mother helped her spell the word.

The next question asked what was the student's favorite holiday and why. Celeste thought about the prompt herself, and realized her favorite was probably Halloween.

One of her hobbies was watching horror movies and eating sweets. Celeste had a dangerous sweet tooth. Sanai really made her appreciate the holiday more, since they often wore matching costumes. Last year they dressed as Bratz dolls.

Pulling her from her thoughts– Nai responded to the question, "My favorite holiday is.. Valentine's day, because it's your birthday. Oh, and I love pink too!"

Her reasoning really made Celeste emotional. She prided herself for raising such an empathic and compassionate child. Sometimes Celeste contemplated why the world made her a mother, but then she spent time with Nai and it all made perfect sense.

Celeste hugged her daughter as best as she could, "What would I do without you?" Celeste said as she showered her child in endearment.

Sanai finished her homework and Celeste was on the last row of braids. A thought came into her mind, "Nai, how would you feel if you had a dad?"

"A dad?" The confused child asked. Oftentimes, Celeste forgot she was just a small child with an even smaller consciousness of life.

Celeste nodded, "Yeah, a dad. He would do all the things I do. You know like how Pawpaw is my dad?"

Sanai seemed to enjoy the idea, "Mhm, I want a dad like you."

This relieved Celeste of her irrational worries, she was scared that Sanai wouldn't be too ideal of the suggestion. Celeste didn't press the thought more, because she didn't know if Saint would actually want to be in her life. She was leaving that decision to him, and she would pressure him to support her daughter either.

With a free mind, Celeste beaded her daughter's hair with the clear circle shaped beads. She eventually took a few pictures of Sanai with the fresh braids. She knew Nai didn't like to sleep with protection for her hair, so the style would be ruined in a week at best.

"My pretty girl." Celeste praised while kissing her greasy forehead.

Celeste's hidden talent was hair. She picked up the hobby when she was younger. She knew how to lay wigs and lace fronts since she did them on herself so often. She used Sanai as a practice head for braided styles. Doing hair was a get away from reality for Celeste, a moment to just make someone feel cute again.
