As Celeste dusted off her pants from sitting on the graveyard, she neatly folded her blanket and gathered her picnic basket. She had just completed her monthly catch up with her mother.
This time instead of tremendous amounts of sadness and frustration, Celeste had happy news to tell her. For once, Celeste didn't leave her mother with tears running down her face. Life was truly turning around for Cel, though she did wish her mother was here to witness it instead of hearing about it.
It was the end of January, and the year was already off to a great start. Most people considered this month to be the free trial of how their year would play out. If this was the case, Celeste was in for an unexpected surprise of events.
Celeste blew her mother a kiss, "I'll see you soon, lady. I'll come back with more good news, I know you'll want to hear all about my life. I'm sure dad will be here soon."
Like the other hundred times, Celeste left her mother to be alone. This time her chest was lighter and her mind was clearer. Of course she had people around her that'll listen to her, but there was nothing like a mother's listening ear.
This is the reason why Celeste built a strong communication bond with Sanai. She never wanted her to feel as if she could tell her mother anything. A child that couldn't express their feelings and emotions freely grew up to be reserved and feeling as if they're a constant burden. Sanai was never such, and Celeste wouldn't raise her with that mindset.
Celeste had a very short to-do list for today. It consisted of running to a few locations for more decorative items for her salon. She used her christmas gift from Saint to close on an offer with Nicholas. It was the greatest day on earth, besides the day she gave birth.
She couldn't wait until everything was set and perfected. She was just months away from taking her board certification exam and being a licensed cosmetologist. Celeste could touch her dreams and it felt so good.
Her phone began ringing and she recognized the number as Nai's school. Celeste's mind immediately began racing and imagining negative thoughts about her daughter. The school hardly ever called for something not important.
The call connected and the person spoke, "Good afternoon, is this the parent of Sanai Davis?" Celeste replied informing the person of her identity.
"I'm the school's treasurer, Ms. Richards. We've noticed that Sanai's tuition for the semester was not paid. The balance remains in full. The final payment date was yesterday, and your balance has acquired an additional late fee. We will be happy to set up a payment arrangement." The lady explained as Celeste grew irritated.
Celeste replied, "I'm sorry, was it not paid yesterday morning? Her father was supposed to come up there and pay the balance entirely."
