heart's dilemma

I see his eyes linger on me in the crowded hallway,
A shy smile curves his lips when our eyes meet,
I feel his quiet care, a warmth that wraps around me.

But fear grips my heart.
For I fear I do not feel the same,
And what torments me is the day he'll lay his heart bare before me.
His heart, as fragile as a glass figurine, placed before me,
And it would tear me apart to shatter his vulnerable trust,
Yet I'd have to walk away.
For his pure heart to fall in love once again,
Perhaps this time, with someone else.
