i wish you were here

It’s been a year,
Yet, your laughter still echoes in my mind.
I miss the way your smile lit up my world,
The way your eyes found mine,
Soft and knowing,
As if we spoke in a language only we understood.
I miss you.

I say I’m moving on,
But the truth lingers between breaths —
I miss you more with each passing day.
And I hate myself for it,
For the grip you still have on me,
For the space you still occupy.

I wish you were here,
To wipe away the tears that fall silently,
To wrap me in your warmth,
And brush the hair from my face,
Like you always did,
With that kiss on my forehead,
That made everything right.

But you’re not.
And the ache stays,
Unchanged, unmoved,
By time.
