faded sparks

In crowded halls, she'd cast her gaze away,
Avoiding eyes, her heart held at bay.
A stolen glance, a silent, fleeting chance,
She'd keep her distance, not risk a happenstance.

A boy with eyes like stars that never fade,
He saw the spark behind her shy charade.
One day, when anger clouded her bright sky,
He spoke, and with a smile, quelled her fiery cry.

They talked, they laughed, they walked through evening's glow,
From strangers into friends, their bond did grow.
But storms inside their minds began to brew,
Dark clouds of pain and sorrow, neither knew.

Arguments and tears tore at their seams,
Shattered hearts, broken dreams.
Their paths diverged, their final words were cold,
A love once warm, now stories left untold.

Years passed, and life's unyielding tide
Carried them far, their pain to hide.
Until one day, across the bustling street,
Their eyes did meet, but not a word to greet.

She walked away, memories on her sleeve,
Once lovers, now strangers, destined to leave.
"Guess we're strangers again," she mused,
A love remembered, yet forever refused.
