That Friday Jiyeon quietly set up her typewriter, which she had gotten back a few days prior, in the connected room to the interrogation room. There wasn't much to do, she simply had to set up her paper roll as well. Having to change sheets during an interrogation wasn't exactly ideal.
"I'm glad you'd accompany me on this," Jake remarked and Jiyeon glanced up from her work on the typewriter.
"Of course," Jiyeon hummed, "it's more working hours for me, rent might be cheap here, but the food rarely is. I'd just be happy if you could solve this case quickly enough."
"Best in the business," Jake proudly reminded and Jiyeon smiled slightly, sitting down by the table right beside the one-way mirror. Tapping a few letters to check everything was just fine.
"Mr. Sim, your witness is here," Secretary Choi poked her head into the room.
"Wonderful," Jake grinned widely and quickly rushed out of the room, leaving behind Jiyeon by her typewriter and Jungwon in the corner, who quietly had been waiting for the coffee machine to pour up the jug enough for a cup for himself.
Jiyeon didn't seem to mind Jungwon one bit as she quietly copied off a small note Jake had left with her. The information of the first witness gets noted down in a meticulous manner. No information should be left in doubt.
"May I ask you a question, Miss Young?" Jungwon spoke up and Jiyeon hummed, quickly finishing her typing before leaning back in her chair and looking over at Jungwon, "Do you read?"
"Do I look illiterate?" Jiyeon retorted and Jungwon slowly shook his head, confused as to why that was relevant to his question, "then I suppose you already know the answer. You haven't deducted your way to it yet?"
"Of course I have," he chuckled and put his coffee mug down on the table Jiyeon sat by, "it's simply polite to ask. I know you read."
"Alright... what gave it away?"
"I'll answer that later. This is important and you have to transcribe soon," Jungwon pointed to the one-way mirror, Jake entered the interrogation room with a young woman. A cup and a jug of water in his hands as he happily chatted.
"Okay, what is it?" Jiyeon hummed and looked at Jungwon.
"Do pine trees have a significant meaning?" Jungwon questioned, making Jiyeon frown in his direction.
"Is this important to the case?" Jiyeon questioned and Jungwon immediately nodded.
"Immensely important," Jungwon nodded.
"Uhm... I think... if I recall correctly it might have something to do with virtue and like... long life or immortality," Jiyeon eventually answered, "I can't say for sure. But it's definitely something with living a while because a pine tree doesn't just wither without a reason."
"Interesting," Jungwon slowly nodded and picked up his mug again, "thank you very much. I'll leave you to your work then. I'll see you around Miss Young."
"Have a nice day Mr. Yang," Jiyeon hummed and turned to her typewriter as Jake got ready to lead the interrogation on the other side of the one-way mirror.
Quietly Jiyeon situated herself properly before turning her attention to the interrogation on the other side of the one-way mirror.
