Jiyeon had to fight back a small yawn as she walked into the police station, a file tugged under her arm and a heavy bag on her other shoulder. Secretary Choi looked up from her work as Jiyeon wandered up and placed the file and bag down by her.
"Long court day?" Secretary Choi questioned as she looked up at Jiyeon who rubbed her eyes.
"I hate divorce cases," Jiyeon murmured, "why can't they just... say; you have the kid this week, I'll have it next week. Then that'd be it. Easy as that."
"There's a reason they go to court for it. They can't figure it out themselves," Secretary Choi sighed and grabbed the bag with the typewriter and tugged it away under the desk before grabbing the file, "just two full-grown adults, who can't figure out to agree."
"And then they turn to us or any audience member and ask what we think," Jiyeon sighed heavily and slumped over the desk, "tell me why my first thought was to pretend that I was mute?"
"Not deaf?"
"I am transcribing!"
Secretary Choi glanced up at Jiyeon with an amused glance before humming calmly. She flickered through the pages before simply nodding and storing it to the side.
"Detective Yang's already left," Secretary Choi pointed out and folded her hands under her chin.
"Why do you think I-"
"You've been coming in here alone and leaving with him for the past few days," Secretary Choi shrugged, "I did my own deduction."
"Hm..." Jiyeon hummed before straightening up again, "I better go home."
"Home?" Secretary Choi snickered and Jiyeon only rolled her eyes with a small smile before leaving.
Jiyeon quickly tugged her coat tighter around herself, noticing the few white crystals falling from the sky. It looked like the night might be filled with now. She would have to get a scarf soon if she didn't want to get sick again.
The door to the apartment building was slightly open once Jiyeon got back and she didn't hesitate to just walk in and rush up to Jungwon's apartment door. She reminded herself to quickly knock before carefully opening the door.
"I'm not on any cases up north at the moment," Jungwon's voice pointed out sternly, "if you want to bother anyone with this I suggest you go to Sunghoon or Jay."
Carefully Jiyeon undid her coat and carefully walked in with her hands in her pockets. Halting in her steps once she stepped into the living room and looked over at Jungwon, who was talking with some guy sitting in the armchair.
The guest was about his thirties, looking far more formal than any of the detectives did in their suits. His hands folded in front of him and a cane standing by the chair.
"Who's this?" the guest questioned and looked over to Jiyeon.
"Uh... transcriber at the police station," Jungwon quickly excused, "promised to come by and check some mistake in one of the transcripts."
"Yeah... I uhm... I remember quite well. I'm sure I've missed a letter or something," Jiyeon quickly excused and the guest slowly nodded.
"I take it as I should leave then?" the guest questioned and Jungwon nodded calmly, "Sunghoon or Jay?"
"I'm not bothering myself with any cases back home before this one is solved," Jungwon shook his head and the guest nodded before pushing himself up from the chair and grabbing his cane. He didn't have trouble walking, so the cane was purely for a look of status.
Jiyeon quickly stepped to the side and let the guest leave. She first turned to Jungwon once the door was fully closed and they were left alone in the apartment again.
"Up north?" Jiyeon questioned and turned to look at Jungwon.
"Apparently he is dissatisfied with the lack of attention his problem is getting from the others," Jungwon murmured calmly and looked through a few of his notes, "bothered himself enough to drive down here and beg me to take his case. Unlike some other detectives, I don't leave one case for another bigger one..."
"He's not dangerous?" Jiyeon questioned and Jungwon glanced up.
"Oh, tremendously," Jungwon assured, "but he's not a criminal. We have nothing to worry about. You can come in you know?"
"I know," Jiyeon hummed and went back out to take off her boots and coat, "it was only in case I needed to feign ignorance."
"Which you did easily," Jungwon assured calmly as Jiyeon returned to the living room and almost sat down in the armchair before pausing, "he did nothing to it. You can sit."
"Hm..." Jiyeon hummed and dumped down into the chair and slumped to one side, "how long do you have left to figure it out?"
"I already figured it out, but no arrests are gonna stop them," Jungwon sighed heavily, "Friday is the next murder."
Jiyeon nodded quietly and looked back at the noticeboard.
"Long day in court?" Jungwon snickered once he noticed how dazed she looked.
"I hate custody cases. It's just two people screaming at each other for hours on end," Jiyeon murmured and rubbed her forehead.
"I think I'm capable of making dinner by myself if you'd like to go rest," Jungwon offered and Jiyeon shook her head quietly, "are you sure? I basically ripped you out of your own apartment in the midst of all this."
"I'm good," Jiyeon waved it off, "you're just too kind by letting me stay here."
"Please... I'm used to two roommates back home. I need someone here to stay sane," Jungwon snorted in amusement.
"Who knows... maybe I should move up north once I finish my education," Jiyeon murmured.
"The first snow is falling," Jungwon hummed with a small nod and Jiyeon glanced out the window before nodding quietly, "so that's what? A year and you'll be running out there butt naked."
"I can assure myself with you needing more than a few hours to get down here from up north," Jiyeon let out a small laugh and tugged her knees up to her chest.
"How come the entirety of the town be allowed to see it, but not me?" Jungwon chuckled.
"Because you only know me. You'd be looking for me," Jiyeon remarked, "pervert, by the way. Besides, if you want to see it so bad, just watch the students tonight."
"I'm good," Jungwon excused and Jiyeon shrugged as he wandered over to the chair, "now... I believe if you've had to listen to people scream at each other for hours, and decipher what they're saying at the same time... you should get some rest," he declared and leaned his hands down onto the armrests.
"I'm resting right now, aren't I?" Jiyeon questioned gently, almost whispering due to their proximity.
"Are you?" Jungwon murmured and she only hummed, noticing how his eyes dipped down for a second. Her own glancing at his lips as if following suit before looking back up at his eyes, "You have a deduction for me?"
"You're stressed," Jiyeon remarked and Jungwon hummed, "two days and no arrests? What in the world are you gonna do?"
"Exactly," Jungwon murmured.
"Put the victim under surveillance and protection," Jiyeon stated and Jungwon nodded.
"Already is."
Jungwon had leaned in and gently kissed her, letting her mind go blank for a good second. The time his lips touched hers seemed to make her mind go all blank. No thoughts going through her mind but how nice his lips felt against hers. How she wanted to continue kissing him. Pull him down to her and just sit with him and enjoy the snow falling outside, his fingers leaving burning trails down her arms and across her cheeks wherever they grazed.
"Go rest, alright?" Jungwon questioned and pulled away slightly, "you look like someone who's been through the divorce yourself."
"I'll be out like a light," Jiyeon excused and got up from the chair.
She only caught a laugh from Jungwon as she moved towards the bedroom. Only thought for a second once she hit the mattress. For a simple second she wondered, was she the next victim?
