The sirens on the police cars might've been off, but the crackling snow, frozen twigs and heavy breathing were more than siren enough to alarm anyone in the pine-forest that they weren't alone.
Jungwon had ordered all light torches to be off, claiming that the moonlight would be their main help.
The moment they had stepped out of the cars a pair of shoeprints were clear in the thin layer of snow. Every once in a while there would be two pairs of footprints in the snow, other times there were one pair and a pattern of something being dragged.
Everyone was freezing, but Jungwon didn't seem to notice how cold he was. He was too focused on the trail he was following. Only one person had been wearing shoes, the other prints only looked to be socks at most. The drag marks not giving much hint of the outer attire, but clearly not too comfortable.
"Stop," Detective Ahn whispered and grabbed Jungwon's arm.
Abruptly Jungwon snapped his head towards the older detective behind him, noticing the stern look on his face before he noticed the small cloud of hot breath meeting the air just around his nose.
"Listen..."
Jungwon frowned slightly as he held his breath. Listening closely he could hear faint whimpers and thrashing. A hiss interrupting every once in a while. They were close.
Carefully Jungwon continued through the snow towards the shuffling and thrashing he could hear. Slowly he came to a halt with Detective Ahn beside him, a few extra cops and officers joining them as well.
Just a bit ahead someone was clearly holding down a young woman in the snow, hands pressing against her face as she tried to wriggle free. Her hands tied behind her back made it near impossible. Slowly it seemed there was less of a struggle.
"Why are you waiting?" Jungwon hissed as he turned to Detective Ahn, who looked to be in shock at what was happening in front of him.
Jungwon rolled his eyes heavily before turning back in time to see whoever the perpetrator was, lift his head and abruptly stand up. Turning on his heel and running off.
"Check on the victim!" Jungwon quickly demanded and set into a run, easily jumping over a pair of legs - which he mentally noted did not wear a pair of shoes at the end of them.
"Still a pulse!" someone behind Jungwon yelled as he kept his pace after the perpetrator, "quick! Before we have a cardiac arrest!"
Quickly Jungwon jumped over a fallen tree, which the perpetrator had stumbled over. Almost immediately the perpetrator had been tackled to the ground as Jungwon held him down.
Despite excessive efforts from the perpetrator to get free and get away, Jungwon managed to keep him down. It was first when Detective Ahn and another officer came running that Jungwon was pried off and the perpetrator was put in handcuffs and led away. Jungwon panted and Detective Ahn sent him a side glance.
"It was Miss Young," Detective Ahn remarked and Jungwon nodded quietly, "you're going back to the station. We need a questioning-"
"I need a transcriber," Jungwon shook his head, "I can't do interrogation without a transcriber."
"I'll call in Mrs. Choi," Detective Ahn remarked and Jungwon slowly turned his head, "no person will be able to do their job after they went through that."
"I want to wait a few days. You have every right to keep him," Jungwon stated.
"No, you're coming with me to the station, because if you don't you'll follow the ambulance and I can't have you in an emergency ward right now," Detective Ahn declared and shoved his hands into his pockets and cleared his throat, "Miss Young stopped breathing."
A small ringing started in Jungwon's ears as his head quietly nodded. He let the information slowly sink in before slowly tuning back into reality.
"Stopped breathing?" Jungwon questioned, interrupting Detective Ahn in his mindless rambling.
"Still a pulse," Detective Ahn clarified, "she was alive when I left her with the paramedics. I have requested hourly updates from the hospital."
"As if they can give you what you want," Jungwon snorted and started walking back. Only sent the dent of a body in the snow a small glance before he continued back towards the police cars by following the trails they had made in the snow.
Jungwon would then be forced to go back to the station and carry out an interrogation of the perpetrator who had been caught that night. Even though the interrogation was short it took more than an hour with long pauses of silence filled by the perpetrator sitting in silence and refusing to answer for a long time.
Secretary Choi had been called in to interrogate, and first, once the interrogation had finished did Jungwon get the notification that Jiyeon was stabilized at the hospital.
