The Han River was loud at the foot of the Yanghwa bridge. A radius of a few metres was already blocked off by bright police tape. Jungwon barely seemed to notice it before lifting it and wandering under it. Halting in his steps before abruptly turning around and holding it up for Jiyeon, who had been a few steps behind him.
"Thank you," she murmured, and he nodded, noticing how quickly she dug a hand into her right pocket and checked the microphone — if it still was recording.
"The body is over here," a police officer was quick to notice their presence, immediately noticing Jungwon.
"She's with me," Jungwon excused, having noticed the weird glance the police officer had sent Jiyeon.
"It's a gruesome scene, sir," the officer remarked and Jungwon glanced over at Jiyeon.
"What? You think it scares me?" Jiyeon questioned and Jungwon lazily turned his gaze back to the officer, who simply stared at her for a few seconds.
"We're getting ready to-" the officer started.
"Interesting, let's take a look."
Jungwon had interrupted the officer quickly and wandered straight past him. Jiyeon casually striding along a few steps behind. He stopped about a leg's length away from the body of a woman in her thirties. Both legs missing as he had been promised.
"Oh wow..." Jiyeon murmured by the time she had stopped beside Jungwon.
"You were warned," Jungwon murmured and crouched down beside the body.
"I know... I'm just impressed at the fact that you were right," Jiyeon murmured casually and glanced over her shoulder, "so what now? What do you do? Look at it and confirm she's dead. Because I can tell you from here she's pretty damn dead."
"I figure out who did it, and why," Jungwon excused calmly, "I thought you would've thought that up already."
"Detective then," Jiyeon stated and Jungwon hummed, "A freelance detective?"
"I get paid more like this than if I was a detective at the police," Jungwon excused, "which is a win for me because they need me."
"Need you?" Jiyeon arched a brow and Jungwon casually hummed, "What? You see things people don't? Ghosts or something?" she snickered.
"I notice more things than you'd believe Miss Young," Jungwon murmured before catching himself and clearing his throat before Jiyeon got to make a comment, "how long do you plan to have your recorder turned on? I'll repeat anything for you when you write your article."
Subconsciously Jiyeon's hand dug into the coat pocket with her recorder. A small smirk planted itself on Jungwon's face before he looked down at the corpse in front of him.
For the following fifteen minutes, Jiyeon stood in silence and watched as Jungwon moved around the body, frowning and muttering to himself every once in a while. Quietly she took notes in her head of how the scene looked, already starting to compose sentences and descriptions in her head.
"Alright," Jungwon abruptly stood up and glanced around himself, giving a small nod and letting his hands fall back into his pockets, "got what I need here. I just need to talk to their head detective and we'll be on the way again."
"So what'd you get?" Jiyeon questioned.
"What did I not get?" Jungwon grinned widely and wandered past her.
By the time Jungwon had left the body forensics started to swarm it and secure every possible clue. Jiyeon could only watch and wonder if Jungwon hadn't contaminated the body by having moved in circles around it for the past fifteen minutes.
"So?" the head detective crossed his arms as Jungwon neared him.
"You're still missing a crime scene," Jungwon casually waved it off, "rookie mistake."
"I've been a detective here for over thirty years," the detective remarked bitterly.
"And still you believe this is your crime scene?" Jungwon reminded, "No, you need a crime scene. This is just the body dumping spot. I want all the files on the case by my apartment this... what should we say? Evening? Noon?"
"You can get it tomorrow morning."
"Tonight then," Jungwon finalised and turned to Jiyeon, who had made her way away from the river once again, "anything else you need, Jiyeon?"
"Is the public aware that these murders have happened?" Jiyeon questioned and Jungwon smiled slightly.
"These?" the detective questioned. They had been cautious about any information leaking, let alone there being multiple similar murders.
"I just supposed the cuts were too clean for being a first-time dismemberment," Jiyeon shrugged and Jungwon couldn't help but smile widely once he looked back at the detective.
"Completely new in the field and she outsmarted you," Jungwon remarked, "I can't wait to see the files. Excuse me, I have to help Jiyeon move."
Jungwon excused himself with a small laugh, walking back up to the car they had been driving in. A small laugh escaped him once he held the police tape up for Jiyeon to pass under.
"Are you sure journalism is the right thing for you?" he questioned in amusement.
"I was just guessing," Jiyeon excused.
"Mighty good guess," Jungwon added on and she simply shrugged.
"The teeth are still a mystery to me."
"I promise I'll stop leaving them about in the kitchen."
Once Jiyeon had moved over to the other side of the car and grabbed the handle for the backseat door she looked up and across the roof to squit her eyes at Jungwon. Almost as if trying to deduct anything from him.
"You called me Miss Young," she commented.
"Workplace formalities. Old habit," Jungwon waved it off, getting a hum from Jiyeon as she glanced him up and down.
Eventually, she gave in and got into the car - using the ride to try and get her back into the headspace of having to go back and pack out all of her things and organize them properly.
