"More eggs?" Carol asked as she walked over to Lily with a hot pan.

"Yeah, thanks," Lily smiled. Everyone was sitting outside, enjoying a quiet breakfast. It was the first peaceful morning they had in a while, and all of them only hoped it would last.

"How's your ankle?" Carol asked.

"Better. Swelling's gone, thankfully. I hadn't seen my ankles that swollen since I was pregnant with this one," Lily said, gesturing to Sutton, who was shoveling eggs into her mouth.

"Gosh, you should've seen me with Sophia. I looked like the Stay Puft man," Carol laughed.

"Why do babies make your ankles all puffy?" Sutton asked, her curiosity piqued.

"Because you guys decide to give us a hard time before you're even around," Lily told her, grinning. Sutton made a face as if that was the most offensive thing she could've said.

"I don't give you a hard time," Sutton protested.

"You're right, I'm sorry. I forgot. You're perfect," Lily said, her voice filled with affectionate sarcasm. Andrea and T-Dog laughed, listening in on their conversation.

"Mom, can I have more eggs?" Sutton asked, her plate already empty.

"We gotta save some for everyone else," Lily told her, shaking her head.

"Here. Not hungry anymore," Daryl grumbled, scraping the rest of his onto Sutton's plate before Lily could stop him.

"Thank you," Sutton beamed, digging into the new serving. Lily looked at Daryl, shaking her head but couldn't wipe the smile off her face. They hadn't spoken since the previous day, both of them taking the day to rest in their respective tents. But Carol wasn't the only one to notice the looks they'd been sending each other.

The calm of the morning was interrupted as Glenn stood in the center of their circle and cleared his throat.

"Um, guys. So...the barn is full of walkers."

─── · 。゚☆: . . :☆゚. ───

Everyone stood around the outside of the barn, staring at it like it was a time bomb. Which in retrospect it had been the entire time. Shane went up to the doors, slightly banging on them, and they all heard the growling and snarling of the walkers inside.

Hershel had been keeping them, some members of his own family like his wife and stepson, thinking that they were just sick. He couldn't fathom the idea that they were dead, reanimated corpses. They'd been secretly feeding them, tossing in whole live chickens to try and satiate them.

Honestly, Lily felt slightly bad for Hershel and his family. She never had to experience someone close to her turning and hoped to god she never did. While she was definitely not okay with her and her kid living and sleeping only a few feet away from them, she could understand why Hershel didn't have it in him to kill them. Especially if he was holding on to the hope of a cure.
