In the pale morning light, Lily hefted the machine gun in front of her, inserting a full clip and ensuring it was ready to go before adding it to the growing pile of weapons. Rick, Michonne, and Carl had returned from a run with a fresh supply of guns and ammo. Nobody asked where the supplies came from; they were just grateful to have them. But Andrea, desperate to broker peace, had arranged a meeting between Rick and the Governor.
Taking Hershel and Daryl with him, Rick had set out early that morning. The group, skeptical about the outcome of the meeting, prepared themselves for whatever might come.
"Sutton, take this," Lily said, handing her a few boxes of ammo. "Leave 'em at the loading dock." She wanted to ensure no one would be without ammunition if things went south, strategically hiding boxes around the cell block.
"I'll go work on the cage outside," Glenn volunteered, heading for the door.
Merle's voice cut through the room. "What we should be doing is loading some of this firepower in a truck and paying a visit to the Governor. We know where he is right now," he said.
Glenn turned back, incredulous. "Are you suggesting that we just go in and kill him?"
"Yeah. I am."
"We're staying here, Merle. Get with the program and shut up," Lily sighed, feeling a headache forming.
Merle shook his head, frustration evident. "I've changed my mind, sweetheart. Being on the sideline with my brother out there ain't sitting right with me."
"Daryl is more than capable of handling himself. Besides, if we go in there now, we'll just end up getting him killed or taken hostage. Anything," she told him, her voice steady as she loaded bullets into a clip.
Merle leaned closer, his tone challenging. "Thought you cared about him. You don't care that he's out there with the Governor right now?"
"Yes, Merle, I do care about him. Which is why I'm sitting here, trying to make rational decisions, unlike you," she said firmly. "So, like I said. Shut up."

As the sun began to set, Lily remained in the main room with Merle, continuing to load bullets into clips. She had volunteered to keep an eye on him until Daryl returned, knowing no one else wanted the task.
"You know I'm right," Merle said, breaking the silence. "You people, you're strong. Good fighters. But you ain't killers."
Lily paused, looking at him. "And you are?"
"When I have to be," he shrugged.
"You know, I could shoot you right here. Say it was an accident. Even if they don't believe me, they wouldn't care," she said, her voice cold.
"My brother would," he replied without missing a beat.
"Yeah, your brother. The only reason you're still standing," Lily huffed.
