With everyone in their designated positions, Lily tightened her grip on the two large carabiner clips she'd used to secure the gate from the inside. Her heart raced as she stood by the outer gate with Lori, who was ready to open and close it for her. The sun was high in the sky, casting long shadows across the gravel-strewn yard, now teeming with walkers.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Lori's voice wavered slightly, betraying her concern.

"Between you and me, I'd much rather be lying on a beach with a margarita," Lily said, her eyes scanning the yard where walkers shuffled aimlessly. Most of them were drawn toward Maggie, Glenn, and Beth, who were making noise on the far side of the yard. Lily nodded to Lori, signaling that she was ready to proceed.

Lori took a deep breath and pulled open the gates. Lily stepped through, taking a brief pause behind a rusted, overturned bus positioned directly in front of her. The bus provided a momentary shield from the throng of walkers. Lily's path to the gate was marked by a gravel trail that crunched underfoot. She took a steadying breath and pushed off, beginning her sprint toward the gate.

The yard was a chaotic swirl of motion. Walkers, their groans mingling with the distant shouts of her friends, began to notice her presence. One stumbled close, its grotesque face a mere inches from hers. Lily swung her dagger with precision, slicing through the walker's head and sending half its skull tumbling to the ground. She continued running, her movements fluid but intense, dispatching another walker that came too close.

A walker to her right lunged, but Lily didn't see it until it was too late. As she spun around, an arrow whizzed past her, embedding itself in the walker's head and causing it to collapse at her feet. Lily looked up to see the distant flashes of gunfire from the towers. The gunshots were relentless, creating a deadly symphony that drew the walkers away from Maggie, Glenn, and Beth, but also intensified the chaos surrounding Lily.

"Shit," Maggie mumbled from afar. "It's not working."

Lily reached the gate, her breath coming in sharp gasps. She noticed a walker blocking her path and quickly dealt with it before yanking the gate toward her. The carabiners lay heavily in her hand. Her grip was slick with sweat, making it hard to maneuver them into place.

"Lily! They're coming!" Glenn's voice cut through the din of chaos. Lily glanced back and saw a group of walkers breaking away from the gate and heading directly toward her. Panic surged as she struggled with the carabiners. Her hands were clammy, slipping on the metal.

"Shit," she muttered, her focus narrowing to the gate. The tension in her shoulders was palpable as she fumbled to get the carabiners in place. Rick's shout echoed in her ears. "Lily, go back!"

The constant barrage of gunfire from the towers kept the walkers at bay, but it also drew them closer to her. Lily could hear Daryl and Sutton's voices through the cacophony, but she couldn't afford to turn away from the gate. She finally managed to clip one carabiner into place, but just as she was reaching for the second, a walker lunged at her from behind.
