15. Nice To Meet You?

"What did you just say?" Gran asked. "Ms.Ruby, that's what we were coming to tell you. I'm divorcing Ashlyn. I fell in love with your grand-daughter, and she might be pregnant with our child. So we need to get her to the hospital" David repeated.

Kortni called 911, while he explained to Gran how he found the love of his life.

Gran reached over and slapped David, still in shock. "I'm sorry Ms.Ruby, but I had to tell you" he said. "How dare y'all come in here, and do this? Why would y'all do something like this to Ashlyn?"

The ambulance came in, taking Emerald. "I'm so sorry Ms.Ruby" I said before getting in the ambulance with her.

Gran and Kortni sat in the waiting area. Gran still in shock and Kortni obviously worried.

Gran couldn't believe what was going on. She was so upset with Emerald. 'I didn't raise her like this', she kept repeating to herself. Ruby debated on whether to call Ashlyn or not. She chose not to, David would have to come clean to his wife.

David and Emerald sat in silence after he told her what happened. "I knew this wouldn't end well" she said as tears formed in her eyes. David grabbed her hand, "Baby I don't expect for anybody to understand. I can't help the fact that I've found my soulmate-"

The doctor walked into the room. "Sorry for interrupting. My name is Dr.Hamilton. I'm here with the test results"

We both nodded our heads. "You aren't pregnant" Emerald secretly blew out a breath of relief. She didn't need to be pregnant. At least not now. She was on birth control but David didn't have to know that. She looked over at David and he seemed disappointed?

When Dr.Hamilton left Gran and Kortni walked in. "I'm sorry, nice to meet you Kortni" Emerald said. Kortni smiled. "Same to you. How are you feeling?" she asked.

"I'm fine. " I said. "Good good. Well I'll let you guys talk" she said and left but not without giving me a hug. "How could y'all do that to that poor girl?" Gran asked.

"I'm sorry Gran. I didn't want you to find out like this" I said as I put my head down. "Ashlyn already knows Ms.Ruby" David said. Gran just shook her head. "I need some time to think. I still love you, but I'm disappointed in you Emerald" she spoke.

I wiped my tears as I nodded my head. She left and David sat on the bed with me. "She'll come around baby. She's just angry. I understand why. I'm just surprised you're not pregnant."

"David you really want a baby? Right now?" I asked. He nodded his head. "I thought we already talked about this, I want you to have my kids" he replied. I shook my head. "A baby would make this situation ten times worse" I said. David just stayed silent.

I was discharged from the hospital the next morning. Kortni called and asked if I wanted to go out to lunch and I told her I wanted to go. When I got home, I did my hygiene routine, and put on a pair of light blue jeans, and a matching denim shirt, along with simple pink heels. After putting my hair in a bun, I left and was on my way to lunch.

When I got to there, Kortni was sitting at the table, on her phone. She looked up and saw me. "Hey" she said, getting up to hug me. "Hi" I replied, hugging her back. We sat down and the waiter came over to us.

After ordering, we started to talk. "I'm sorry about what happened yesterday. I didn't wanna introduce myself in that manner" Kortni laughed. "It's ok Emerald. Shit happens" she said and shrugged. I laughed along with her. I liked her already.

"Is everything ok?" she asked seriously. "Yea, everything is fine. Thanks for asking" I replied. The rest of the time, Kortni and Emerald sat conversing about anything and everything.

Meanwhile, David decided to stop by his house to pick up some stuff for the office. He was surprised to see Ashlyn's car in the driveway. At this time she was supposed to be at school.

Upon entering the house, he saw Ashlyn sitting in the living room, crying while clutching a piece of paper.

Ashlyn turned to see David, surprised. She thought of how she would break the news.

"Hi Ashlyn" David said.

"Hi David" she replied. "Look, we need to talk" he said. Ashlyn nodded her head. David went and sat across from her on the couch.

"Ashlyn I want a divorce. I'm unhappy. I still have love for you, but I fell out of love with you some time ago. I don't know how you're going to feel about it but I thought I should just te-"

"David I'm pregnant"

David's face screwed in confusion. "What?"

Ashlyn handed him the paper she was holding. It was from her doctor, confirming that she was three weeks pregnant.

David didn't know what to do. He was in actual shock. For ten minutes, they both sat there in silence. David thought about how Emerald would react to the news. He wanted to keep the baby, it was his seed. But at the same time he wanted to be with Emerald, the new love of his life.

"So what now?" Ashlyn asked.

"I don't know Ashlyn" he answered honestly. "Let's work it out for the baby" Ashlyn said. David sat there in thought for minute.

"Okay"
