➹THIRD PERSON PERSPECTIVE➷

Alistair was a bit confused about what Lorenzo was referring to, so he politely asked him for clarification.

"Could you please clarify what you mean when you refer to me as your husband?" Alistair inwardly chastised himself for mistakenly stating that he was Lorenzo's husband when a medical professional enquired about his relationship with the patient. In retrospect, he should have maintained the act he had been employing all along.

"I noticed a nurse standing beside my bed, reviewing some documents attached to a clipboard. It appeared to be a visitor list, and she was adding another name to it. Out of curiosity, I asked her who had visited me, and she informed me and kindly allowed me to see the list myself. To my surprise, I saw the word "husband" written in brackets next to your name. Initially, I thought I had misheard her, but after examining the list, I realised I hadn't. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide an explanation for why you were listed as my husband. I kindly request that you be honest and transparent in your response." Alistair visibly swallowed, which Lorenzo noticed.

"I would like to share something with you that may have slipped your mind. However, it is quite a lengthy story, so I kindly request your full attention as I provide a detailed explanation. If you happen to disagree with me, that is perfectly understandable. However, if you do believe me, I would like to ask a favour of you." Lorenzo gave a polite nod as he waited with patience for Alistair to share the information with him.

"Before I start, would you mind if I ask you a question?" Lorenzo mumbled the word "sure" under his breath, respectfully allowing Alistair to ask him a question.

"Lorenzo, do you recall our trip to your cousin's cabin six years ago? Technically, the cabin belonged to his parents, but he invited Aodhán, Cordelia, Raphael, Meredith, Dante, you, and me. The purpose of the trip was to reconnect as a group and strengthen our family bond, as it had been quite some time since we had all spent quality time together." Lorenzo listened attentively to Alistair's explanation, sensing the importance of the conversation despite not fully comprehending its context.

"Excuse me, but I'm a bit confused. You're saying that we met six years ago, but I don't seem to remember you. However, I do recall seeing you at a meeting held in my mother's company last month. You were staring at me quite a bit, and I couldn't help but feel like you were judging me. Every time I spoke, you either chuckled or rolled your eyes, and it made me feel uncomfortable." Alistair recalled that day, as it had been quite some time since he had last seen Lorenzo. It brought him great joy to see his face after such a long period.

"Well, we did not meet six years ago. We met years before that. In fact, we grew up together as our families were very close. Best friends, I would say." Lorenzo noticed the evident sadness on Alistair's face as he recounted the story.

It was a genuine expression of sadness as well.

"If you have known me for more than six years, why didn't you mention it earlier? Additionally, I do not recall anything you have said so far. Have I experienced some form of memory loss?" Alistair nodded and composed himself to continue the story, holding back his tears.

He is honestly conveying the truth to Lorenzo, and he sincerely hopes that Lorenzo will trust and believe in his words.
