Two hours have elapsed, and Alistair remains at Cordelia's residence. Pierre, seated before him, engages in a conversation with Cordelia regarding Meredith. Pierre professes his love for Meredith, but his sincerity is questionable.

"I am aware that Meredith's birthday is not until the latter part of next month, but I have already meticulously planned a special event for her. I sincerely hope that she will be delighted with my efforts and that I do not embarrass myself as I did when we initially began dating." Alistair politely cleared his throat to gain their attention, which was successful. He maintained intense eye contact with Pierre, while Cordelia remained utterly perplexed.

She was aware of Alistair's dislike for Pierre, but the reason behind it had always eluded her. At this opportune moment, Cordelia resolved to pose the question that had been lingering in her mind for quite some time. She sincerely hoped that Alistair would provide a candid response rather than a flimsy excuse.

"I have a question that I would like an honest and accurate answer to, so please be truthful with me." Alistair raised an eyebrow but nodded in understanding.

"I would like to understand the specific reasons why you dislike Pierre. I understand that I have asked you this question before, and I appreciate your previous responses. However, I believe that you may have been untruthful with me in the past. If you are not honest with me this time, I will be forced to reconsider our relationship." Pierre's face showed signs of anxiety, and he hoped that Alistair would not mention the actual reasons, as it could lead to serious consequences.

Alistair approached Pierre and silently conveyed a message, "Please, refrain from informing her. It would deeply distress Meredith if she were to discover my actions concerning her." However, unbeknownst to Alistair, his intended silent communication was inadvertently whispered, and regrettably, Cordelia overheard his words.

"May I enquire about your actions towards Meredith that could potentially cause her distress upon discovery?" Pierre's eyes widened in comprehension as Alistair responded with a triumphant smirk.

"I kindly request that you be completely honest with her at this moment. Please proceed and inform her of the situation." Cordelia politely folded her arms across her chest and maintained eye contact with Pierre, patiently awaiting his response. 

Cordelia was deeply troubled upon learning about Pierre's undisclosed relationship that has been ongoing for several years. She felt a mix of anger and disappointment, especially considering Meredith's recent enthusiastic remarks about Pierre's treatment of her. Last week, Meredith had spoken at length about how well Pierre treated her, even expressing her willingness to accept a future proposal without hesitation.

"I am at a loss for words, and I understand her feelings for you. However, it is not appropriate to cause her pain. I am curious to know what you hope to achieve by doing this. Are you seeking recognition or an award? Alistair could not help but chuckle softly, as after all these years, some truth had finally come to light.

"It is important to note that Meredith's behaviour was not exemplary either. During her relationship with Lorenzo, she engaged in an extramarital affair with me. Initially, it was intended to be a singular occurrence, but unfortunately, she developed romantic feelings for me and confessed her love. In response, I reciprocated her sentiments despite the fact that my feelings were not genuine." Cordelia rose from the couch and gracefully turned, making her way towards the foyer. There, she found Meredith leaning against the wall near the entrance of the sitting room. Cordelia noticed that Meredith had overheard everything and seemed deeply affected by it.

"Meredith," Cordelia uttered gently as she approached her, promptly enveloping her in a warm embrace.

Alistair and Pierre overheard some sniffling, so they discreetly followed the sound and discovered Cordelia embracing Meredith. They understood the situation without needing to enquire, as it was evident what had transpired.

She happened to hear them, Cordelia politely glanced up and noticed the presence of the two gentlemen. She gracefully motioned for them to depart, as she believed it would be the most appropriate course of action at that particular moment. Consequently, they obliged and left.

At this moment, Cordelia is providing solace to her closest friend using the most effective methods she can devise. It is anticipated that Meredith will also utilize these methods in the near future.
