The Great Hall buzzed with excitement as students filled the long tables, eager chatter blending with the clatter of cutlery and the occasional flutter of an owl's wings overhead. Eliza sat between Sirius and Remus across from them James and Peter, her hands slightly trembling as she picked at her food. Despite the joyous atmosphere around her, the weight of recent memories pressed heavily on her mind.

Sirius noticed her subdued demeanor and exchanged a concerned glance with Remus. They both knew what Eliza had endured over the holidays, and they were determined to support her through this difficult time.

"You okay, Liz?" Sirius asked quietly, leaning closer to her.

Eliza nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, just... adjusting, I guess."

Remus placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "It's okay to feel uneasy after what happened. But remember, Hogwarts is our sanctuary. You're safe here."

His words eased some of the tension coiled in Eliza's chest. She took a steadying breath, grateful for the understanding and support of her friends. The warmth of the Gryffindor table, the familiar faces around her, and the cheerful decorations began to chip away at the walls of anxiety she had built around herself.

They continued their meal in companionable silence, occasionally joining in the conversations around them. Lily, Alice, and Marlene were seated nearby, their laughter mingling with the general buzz of the hall. Despite sharing a dormitory, Eliza hadn't grown particularly close to them yet. She admired their easy camaraderie but felt a lingering sense of separation, unsure if they could understand the depth of her anxieties.

After the meal, as they made their way to the common room, Eliza checked her new timetable nervously. Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall was first, a subject she both enjoyed and excelled in. She walked between Sirius and Remus, finding comfort in their presence as they navigated the winding corridors to the classroom.

By the time they returned to the common room that evening, Eliza felt a sense of accomplishment mingled with relief. She sank into a cozy armchair by the fire, the crackling flames casting comforting shadows on the walls. Remus sat beside her, handing her a cup of hot chocolate with a small smile.

"You did great today, Eliza," he said softly, his eyes reflecting genuine pride.

"Thanks, Remus," Eliza replied, feeling a warmth spread through her. She leaned back, savoring the camaraderie and the sense of belonging that Hogwarts offered. Despite the challenges that lay ahead, she knew that with her friends by her side, she could face anything that came her way.
